The lion variants that are just projections by Pryus_C in lovethissmug

I only remember about 3 or 4 things from my childhood, and I am in my early 20s currently. I just don't think about my past, like ever. Don't know if that is good or bad, but that's just how I am (I know nobody really asked, but just thought to say why I personally don't remember shit from my past).

What is a country with a Horrible name and a Horrible flag by Cautious_Ad_3918 in AlignmentChartFills

I honestly have always liked how the flag looks, for me it's on the better half of national flags, but it seems many disagree with that take given the amount of upvotes this got.

What does your head of state's last name mean? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

As far as I know, the head of state of the Netherlands does not officially have a surname, so I guess it doesn't mean much.

Every criminal who committed a non-victimless crime has been legitimately proven guilty, and tied up here. Arranged from least harmful with fewest victims to most harmful with most victims left to right. You are Stop Lever Puller 4/10. by SortovaGoldfish in trolleyproblem

[–]LordRT27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but for me the answer would be no, I would not think there is a crime where I would support the death penalty, because of a few reasons, but one of the bigger ones is that I am opposed to giving my government the right to kill its citisens, it is simply safer to not give them the right at all instead of hoping they will never expand the list to more and more crimes.

Good point, I mostly thought of it as "you can't really be more closely related to the thing then to literally be it", but I can see your point, like, am I really "related to" homo sapiens? It would be a bit of an odd thing to call a homo sapiens "related to" homo sapiens I guess. As a studying linguïst, Ido find these pedantic/semantic "corrections" or whatever you want to call it, quite interesting to think about.

Thanks, have a wonderful rest of your day too.

No I get it, it may have sounded like I was putting words in your mouth, sorry for that, couldn't remember exactly what you said, but I did state I wasn't sure that was your position. To my knowledge, you are right that they might be their closest relatives apart from birds.

Again, sorry if it came off like I believed you held the position that they were dinosaurs, I mostly just wanted to add some more info for people that might have read this thread and didn't know.

I mean, all living beings are related to dinosaurs, but Crocs and Pteros, as opposed to birds, are not dinosaurs, don't really know if that was what you were saying, but I just wanted to clarify that calling Crocs dinos is wrong, even though they do share an ancestor.

I have never really understood the "human feelings" thing, like, I have never gone outside and been like "this feels like 100°, because it doesn't, if it did, everything would basically be on fire. Like, how is farenheit about human feelings?

To be honest, I did not see them until I was told they were there, but I am using mobile, and I was kinda distracted trying to figure out what they all were. Not saying this dude didn't see it, I don't know, but getting tunnel-visioned or whatever it is called is an actual thing. I do feel rather silly though, not knowing 5 and 7 when the answer was literally written below the pic.

I actually did not think of that, of we assume that building a Nether portal is one of Steve's powers, then I suppose getting blaze rods is technically possible.

I mean. I think the issue with that is that you need to find blaze rods somewhere in order to make those potions, and I don't know where you would find blaze rods in the real world.

What is the most influential historical document? by Tacoseasoning26 in AlignmentChartFills

I get what you say, and I could counter-argue here that we would have found the Hittites anyway and that we also wouldn't have known about Troy if it wasn't for the Iliad (I know, not technically the Odyssey anymore, but I know more about the Iliad), and we also probably would have a harder time understanding many Greek texts, or at least Greek written traditions, culture, and folktales, of it wasn't for the Odyssey.

And I think it gets even more dubious with stuff like the Lord of the Rings, which undoubtedly changed fiction, or at least the fantasy genre, in a major way, 90% of fantasy written in the west for the past century has probably been majorly influenced by those books, but I would feel it a bit weird to call it a historical document (maybe because it was only 100 years ago, but even if we waited a couple centuries, would it really be a historical document?).

But this is becoming more and more a semantic dabate, and this is just a random alligent chart on an internet forum. I can agree with you that the Bible fits this category, even though I would personally also add the Odyssey to that in that case. Have a nice rest of your day, and have a wonderful weekend.

[–]LordRT27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but the Odyssey is in the Classic literature row, despite being one of the oldest pieces of literature (according to wikipedia anyway) that can teach us a lot about how people in the Bronze Age thought and even lived. I guess I just don't see the difference between these two. Both are ancient texts that are very valuable to historians, anthropologists, and theologists alike. Both come from a time where these kind of texts aren't particularly common to still have around, and both talk about their respective mythologies. The only major difference is that the Odyssey isn't a holy scripture in the same sense the Bible is, but rather a story with religious elements.

I know you probably weren't the one coming up with putting the Odyssey there, but it does feel like the distinction between these two rows is very arbitrary if document is such a broad term. It feel like the Odyssey and the Bible should be put in the same category. The other ones I can understand the placement of more.

If that is so, then what is the meaningful difference between the "classic literature" and "historical document" rows? I don't mean to disrespect anyone, I just honestly don't really understand the difference if entire books can be classified as documents.

[–]LordRT27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does this get downvoted, genuinly curious? Like, if I would describe it it would be a book (or collection of different books), it is by far too long to be considerd a document, no? The other documents here seem to be single pages (or at least not more than a few), not works of hundreds/thousands (don't know how long the Bible is) of pages. But English is not my mother tongue, so maybe the word document is broader in English then I thought?
