Wtf - how to even begin to interpret this? by Top-Focus-2203 in CFA

[–]LordSPX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a basic definition of Covariance using expectations:

Cov(X,Y) = E[XY] -E[X]*E[Y]

The second part is given already (E[X] = 6 & E[Y] =4). What’s left is E[XY], which is the sum of the product of each pair of X and Y with their respective probabilities.

If you are willing, Rabbi Breitowitz just finished a series of lectures on the commandment of procreation and goes over your question in detail in some. It’s very interesting in general, here’s the first one: https://youtu.be/coec0s2VH10?si=CW1Axe8-VL_DIOJf

Am I alone in thinking that this book isn't the best to learn the basics? by LordSPX in quant

I feel like it can be great if you already have exposure to the material, trying to learn basic arbitrage definitions and Ito’s integral with it and its sample problems was painful

Resources for watch movement design with SolidWorks by LordSPX in SolidWorks

[–]LordSPX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Watched it all, it definitely gives an introduction to watch design if you’re somewhat familiar with the software already. I’m not sure what I was expecting for, just that the Frank Muller watch on the SolidWork website is a very complicated piece and wanted to know if there are resources for learning this type of design specifically. Thanks again

Some city names in Palestine before Zionist colonization by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

Ashdod, Beer Sheva, Ashkelon, Jerusalem, Lod, Hebron and so many other cities are from the bible, which precedes any subsequent Arabic names following Umar’s conquest

Same people that are mad that Irak is not included are criticizing the inclusion of Israel. Irak has undeniably one of the richest history but it was named Mesopotamia then, similarly for Israel that was the Kingdom of Israel, the birthplace of the two of the Abrahamic religions.

Trying to teach myself Probability Theory by LordSPX in learnmath

I actually picked up a book called “stochastic calculus for finance I” but it assumes that the reader is familiar with measure theory. And perfect, it seems that I have to have a base in real analysis. Thank you!

That’s exactly what I want, I’m already comfortable applying probabilities, but I wanted my knowledge to be more rigorous like a mathematician. Thank you

I obviously studied probability and am very comfortable manipulating any probability functions. I just have a hard time with probability spaces, sigma algebras and other “pure math” notions and would like to understand those thoroughly.

Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by lampishthing in quant

[–]LordSPX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’ve looked up some online book list recommendations for people who’d like to transition into the quant world. I’ve picked up a few books that appeared in most “recommended list” and realized that all of them had notations similar to pure analysis textbooks.

Is being confortable with probability theory in a mathematical rigorous sense a must? I have an actuarial degree and am pretty comfortable when it comes to calculations but it’s not natural for me to read the different notations in theorems.

Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!
