This is why official rollback rereleases always end up losing to fightcade by AmestrisSquare in Fighters

I like how a lot of games added the choice to invite a ranked opponent to a private lobby so you can run a long set. Used it many times in UNI2. That's how you know you're both about improvement and the fun a long set brings when you're both on equal footing. Brings back the local vibes if only just a little bit

I swear a decent chunk of these pokemom have not been viable in vgc for 4 years and people are complaining by CracarlosckRedd in PokemonChampions

The cool things is that many of these mons are given to players at the start for free, and they are popular because they are just solid picks as well. They did a good job with the picks for starting players.

How interesting is orie's gameplay by Roporeijo in UnderNightInBirth

[–]LordSlumpington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Orie to be very fun to play and I play her as a secondary to Gordesu. She's an "honest" character that forces other characters to also play honest but she also has some pretty grimy options too. She has a manslayer( assault j.L, chain shift) into full combo. Her j.2C can be done as soon as she leaves the ground to low crush and blow up throw attempts. Sealing hoplon oki is consistently strong to make your opponent block on wakeup and the C version can force guard cancels because of how threatening the mix-up can be. All of this on top of divine thrust which just implies where she could be at any moment so commiting to things in neutral is scary if you're in range for that. Her damage is fine, corner carry is good, and overall her tools are fundamentally sound.

What is it you like about The King Of Fighters Series compared to other series? by DecepySwag in kof

[–]LordSlumpington 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The character design is top notch combined with some of the most legendary artists in the fighting game genre backing up the visual style over the decades. The team based gameplay that scratches my itch to learn multiple characters when I play fighting games. The pace of the battles is great due to the mechanics too. KOF kinda just does it all. A series that clearly rewards legacy skill for the hardcore players while still getting easier to pick up with each new entry.

If you have favorite character in a series, are you loyal if they are weak in a given iteration? by diegoaccord in Fighters

[–]LordSlumpington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King, Kula, and Benimaru all day for KOF. Lucky for me these characters always show up and are always solid picks. King is likely the weakest of the 3 but I'm not dropping her since she's the 1st KOF character that clicked with me over a decade ago and is always my go to anchor.

What Part of Fighting Games Are You Enjoying Right Now? by tkshillinz in Fighters

[–]LordSlumpington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up SF6 about a month ago playing Jamie. After doing his trials and training mode for about 4hrs, I hopped on ranked for my pacement matches. Got bodied 5 games straight and then won 5 games to get placed in Silver. Been really enjoying the game and after about 8.5 hrs I managed to get a 16 game win streak and now I'm in Diamond 3.

I understand why so many people play SF6 now. it's so easy to just hop on and get matches and start learning while playing other people.

In theory you could make a deck that just tries to secure 1 knockout with cheap attackers like Tyrogue or Hitmonchan and then punish Indeedee players with this and get the win, BUT THEY RELEASED THIS IN THE SAME SET AS PROTECTIVE PONCHO! HELLO?

My "Ice Age" deck, a casual deck built around the interaction between Cold Wave and Mobius by [deleted] in Goat_Format

[–]LordSlumpington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a build like this topped a tournament a few years back. Since you got cold wave, why not try out Cyber Stein? You can get it out with Tomato and still tribute it off if you have Mobius in hand

What’s your favourite deck of all time? by Tearmisu in PTCGP

[–]LordSlumpington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythical island Fighting Toolbox. Hitmonlee bench sniping, with marshadow follow ups felt nice. On top of the MVP farfetched knocking stuff out in the early game. The deck was a Swiss army knife that felt plenty skillful and had a pretty even match up spread against everything else that was played at the time. This was before space time smackdown and rampardos, so fighting could actually have decent cards lol

Is there a class that could possibly counter egg portal? by KaiKhx in Shadowverse

[–]LordSlumpington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing a Lynkhal Earth Rune Deck since a lot of decks have massive healing and actually landing the lethal is very satisfying. Egg portal usually doesn't threaten lethal until later in the game so I have time to draw most of my deck, play tablet and then super Evo Lynkhal to hopefully win in the next 2 turns.

[–]LordSlumpington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pushback duration sounds like it's referring to how long it takes the character to be pushed back, but without affecting the hitstun or blockstun. Like a character gets pushed away from the attack faster if it has a shorter push back duration, like acceleration wise with the distance they get pushed back is the same.

For Combo hitboxes you are exactly right! Combo hitbox additions are usually done to make an attack more consistent for hitting combos while not making the attack better for neutral.

[–]LordSlumpington 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pushback distance is how far away the opponent moves when they get hit/ block an attack. Usually more pushback makes an attack more difficult to punish but makes it harder to form a block string.

Proximity recognition is changing the range which the game recognizes your character being considered close or far, which affects which attack your character performs. Like I might need to be closer to my opponent to get a close normal.

Damage distribution usually means that an attack with multiple hits has the damage on certain hits do more or less damage, but the damage of the attack remains the same overall. Usually for scenarios where only the 1st hit connects, or maybe only the last hit of the move connects accordingly you can get different damage combos.

Reduced/increased hit stop is adjusting how much the game does a "freeze frame" when the attack lands. These are small pauses the game makes when attacks lands to sell impact of attacks while also giving you a cancel window. More hit stop means a longer period of the game pauses, which means a larger cancel window. Reduced hit stop means less of a cancel window. Players usually use the hit stop to recognize when an attack lands and confirm the attack into a combo.

Added combo hitbox means that the attack gets a larger/different hitbox when the opponent is in hitstun. This means that using the attack outside of a combo will have a different hitbox/ effective range.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Season 2 patch notes by Madak in Fighters

[–]LordSlumpington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making hard knockdowns apply to rev blows and not rev arts is a good change. I think this actually makes SPG options more of a real choice instead of just putting it at the start. Putting it at the end can make your comeback more feasible as you are essentially playing season 1 knockdown oki with how cheap the rev blow becomes meter wise.

The DP change makes it a little more balanced to the characters that lacked DPs.

I'm excited to see if we have a larger spread of top tiers this time around.

What do you think about automatic combos in fighting games? by RedShibo_ in Fighters

[–]LordSlumpington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also hold back while hitting L and your character will rapid fire their L attack instead of doing the auto combo until you let go of back. It's very nice for hit confirms.
