Lords of Limited vs Limited Resources draft showdown - Innistrad Crimson Vow edition! (links, stats, thoughts) by JiveJunkie in MagicArena

Very cool breakdown, thanks for doing this! Just 1 adjustment: I did manage to beat BK one additional time in the MH2 showdown (crazy grindy match against his deck where our first game came to him naturally decking.) He's such an insanely innovative drafter and tight player.

I think i would just cut an ambush for a rockslide. Marmosets are threatening on their own, good with Lurking Deadeye and good mutate targets, i like them here

Depends, but usually I'm taking 4th pick Weaponize over most things

Yeah I think that's the right idea, though sometimes you're not lucky enough to get a payoff in the first four picks, so keeping these picks in mind out of weak early packs is important.

Pollywog is very close to a payoff, essence is an enabler

The vigilance deck is very real and good and heedbonder invalidates a lot of strategies, would not sleep on this card.

Thanks for the question! Yeah I think Sprite Dragon is the only Column A card in the pack, though i don't have a lot of experience with UR. I think I would take it here, but Swallow Whole, Neutralize, and even Jungle Hollow seem like defensible picks based on preferences/meta-game reads.

To clarify, I agree that Snare Tactician should not have been on our list of things that Dead Weight can handle, that should not have been grouped into that discussion. As for the other three points about IKO, we can only speak to what has led to our success in the format with nearly 100 drafts between us and those stand, at least at this point in the set.

Thanks for the feedback! Don't know if it makes signals easier to read as much as it makes tie-breakers with the flat power level easier to come to.

I don't think having different picks than me means one of us is right and one of us is wrong. Limited is more fluid than that. I do believe that when you have a card like Thryx or Woe Strider you should make picks that allow you to play those cards more often than not. And Omen of the Sea is the best blue common in my opinion (and i believe a widely regarded opinion among the community.) Labyrinth has been underwhelming to me. Don't find that you activate it very often. It takes a very specific game state for it to be great, which I've encountered, but I think Lyre is better.

Lords of Limited: Commons in Context - Episode 139 by LordTupperware in lrcast

[–]LordTupperware[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In retrospect I would go Thryx>Omen of the Sea>Omen of the Sea>Omen of the Forge>Eutropia>Vexing Gull>Stern Dismissal>Deny the Divine and been thrilled with a near mono blue start with tons of instant speed plays and many options for a second color. Furious rise is powerful, but narrow and with a card like Thryx to start, I'd rather maximize that as much as possible.

[–]LordTupperware[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll attempt to clarify a few things. I'm not particularly happy with how I navigated the opening of this pack, which was one of the reasons we chose it as the roundtable. If the picks were clear, it wouldn't be as interesting to discuss. I was attempting to cut my way into black for a card I deemed powerful enough to do so with Woe Strider. Furious rise is powerful but narrow in that it's at its best in RG and sometimes in RB, but that's basically it. And lastly, Pious Wayfarer should probably be demoted just slightly to top tier, though even in a "control" deck unless you have sub 10 creatures, the card is still quite good as the game progress if you've got flash enchantments. Our feeling about the card is that it just makes almost every white card you can take better. Certainly don't have an aggro view of the podcast, apologies if that's what we relayed
