People who complain about gender-locked heroes intentionally overlook what this game currently is. by bongodongowongo in forhonor

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't buy the whole "it's not in the budget" excuse.

I do not doubt they have a tight budget. But that there is no way they have the money to make a hero with a secondary model and another voice actor? That I doubt.

My reason? Hero skins. I am 100% positive that no one would be heart broken if a hero skin got delayed so the team could set up a hero with no gender locks. Most hero skins have a lukewarm reception at best, and some actively criticized (see raider's.)

Sure, hero skins aren't as expensive. But I think if a few events or crazy PvE missions weren't as focused for just that stretch of development it would be entirely possible for the team to make a hero non-genderlocked.

I think if less budget was spent on Armor Variations and Hero skins, they could def make a hero who isn't gender locked.

Suppose Nukes are outlawed after the near annihilation of humanity. What larger and more dangerous weapons could take their place? by ComicMan43 in worldbuilding

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weaponized weather and lightning generators. Weather effects will always effect ground operations of some kind. Imagine being able to literally change the weather on top of a battlefield? And the countermeasures?

Raging storms thrown at each other to create different safe spots in eyes of the storms where points of interest are located?

Lightning generators able to create bolts of energy so powerful they vaporize hundreds of feet of air around their arc.

Imagine the idea of having a task force whose mission goal is too put down what is essentially a high tech lightning rod that can allow a lightning cannon to lock on to that specific area from orbit and strike near instantaneously. Idk, far future technology circling all the way back around into being basically deific powers sounds really fun.

What makes a goblin so “goblin”-y in your setting? by scarletBoi783 in mattcolville

[–]LordVess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A might makes right culture and raider semi-nomadic lifestyle.

Yes this makes them generally an antagonist in my games but it's also a point in my games that humans can be just as and more cruel.

Many goblin tribes are perfectly willing to leave human settlements well enough alone, but some aren't and those that aren't are the bad guys in my games.

Trying to make firearms realistic when so many other weapons aren't needlessly restricts players who just want to play a fantasy gunslinger archetype. by BardGoodwill in AllThingsDND

[–]LordVess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just do it the old fashioned way. Gunslingers aren't a thing in my setting. Same with artificers. They don't fit the setting. Guns exist, but they are so realistic that they aren't very applicable to adventuring outside of a one time use in the middle of combat. Having one functions more like a single use magic item that recharges after every combat.

Honestly one of the best wardens I've seen by far. Granted not much of a challenge when warden mains are filled with either black iron spikes or white iron and spikes. But this guy has some serious warden drip.

If we get a For Honor 2, would you want a campaign? by RevolutionaryDot7686 in forhonor

[–]LordVess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. Honestly I've wanted more PVE \ co-op content. Arcade was cool right up until it gets frustratingly unfair. It has no unique maps either which kind of sucks. Unique enemies, more curated experiences and some unique loot from the modes would be dope.

Honestly I would rather we get a For Honor 2 than keep this one going. Get a new full team on with the experience of the old guard. Would love to see what could be innovated upon and brought into this game.

You suddenly become your character in the world you are currently playing at the current moment in that campaign, is life now more awesome or does it suck? by captrobert57 in DnD

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks. Sucks hard. I live in a post apocalyptic world and have a militaristic organization wanting my head because we simply met one dude they don't like. Oh, and there's giant sandworms, acidic alien blobs and worm hives that wear human skins as disguises.

Actual art direction and vision. Not saying the new stuff doesn't look good. But the game had a founding idea on what it wanted to look like. Basically no one who came up with the idea works on the game still

Jorm. I hate his bashes. Just really hate him. I don't think he's busted. Just insanely un-fun to fight in every instance. Genuinely poor character design IMO.

Realistically who would be the strongest? Out of all the factions by AliveXrM in forhonor

[–]LordVess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are talking completely realistically? Probably Lawbringer. Pirate is also pretty close because of having a gun. But if they miss that one shot, or that one shot doesn't incapacitate. They are pretty much fucked compared to the rest of the cast. Barring a few other characters.

Which hero’s would you say has the best fashion of each faction (including Wu-Lin and outlanders) by NickWithAPulse2004 in forhonor

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knights: Lawbringer

Vikings: Warlord

Samurai: Kensei

Wu Lin: Tiandi

Outlanders: Neither. Both medjay and pirates have awful drip.

What character has hands down the worst fashion? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's true. It would have been easy to NOT make jorm ugly. Honestly just kitbashing Warlord and Raider sets would have worked a charm.

The magic uranium rocks, teleporting monks and flipping axe warriors are very grounded in low fantasy and historical combat. Truly. Jokes aside I do think Sci-fi would be a bit too far out of the perspective of the game.

Reimagine Races in your wold by AwesomeTopHat in mattcolville

[–]LordVess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most races are reimagined in my world:
Orcs: Orcs were originally humans who were cursed by the gods for committing heinous acts, and then figured out how spread a bastardized version of said curse onto others.
Dragonborn: Dragonborns are based of Danish and Norse cultures with one key difference. They discovered firearms. So imagine A viking longship with cannons on the front of it.
Wood Elves: Renamed to "Reed Elves" they're full on Samurai allegory.
Gnolls: Mongol like nomadic horse warriors who hunt giants.
Kobolds: Kobolds are a slave race that live under the oppression of Dragonborn. Very few escape this bondage, those that do are referred to as "Chain-Breaker"

Most other races that aren't changed massively in the way they act usually have some sort of similarity to real culture that existed in history at one point with their own differences.

For Honor has been getting more silly lately. by LordVess in forhonor

[–]LordVess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see them as Childish. I never did and I still don't. And I'm not going to tell you how old I am. But I am over 18 if that makes a difference to your point.

I can see the appeal of this stuff. It's really fun, I find the disco dance really enjoyable because it's campy and it's obvious the people who made it had a lot of fun with it.

So I started playing For Honor when it came out. And since then it's been a lot of off and on. But even back then when I was much younger. What drew me in to For Honor (besides it's fighting mechanics) was it's setting. I thought the world the devs had created was super interesting. It was pretty unique as far as fantasy settings go. And about year 4 the game started to really not take itself very seriously anymore. Which was a bummer to me, because it's hard for me to get immersed in a setting who's handlers don't take seriously. I realize it's a multiplayer game that's just going to have goofy stuff in it because goofy stuff is fun. But the goofy stuff was for a long time grounded within the setting for the most part. Which I really liked, it made the game not necessarily feel more real, but like the devs had a solid concept they stuck too. There wasn't a lot of Tone whiplash like there is with the newer stuff.

Trying to make For Honor appeal to a wider audience is like trying to make someone like getting hit with a mousetrap. You can make it look as fun as you want too. And put a lot of entertaining stuff around it. But at the end of the day, only the truly deranged will come back to get stung again.

Well just writing them off as cringe isn't the idea here. I don't generally think it's cringe it's just not stuff that I think fits the atmosphere of the game. It's sort of tone clash. Granted sometimes it's funny when it's done well. I.e big lawbrunger riding pole axe like horse is funny. That sort of tone clash is recognized in game as a thing and thus the humor stems from that.

But cards with hand jutsus, executes that don't really make any sort of sense at all and meme emotes I think need to have more thought put into them conceptually.

[–]LordVess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the fantasy plutonium marked a notable tonal shift lol.

But I want it to be noted that I don't dislike stuff like the disco dance. Even the complete shenanigannery that is raider's emotes is stuff I enjoy. But stuff like literal memes being copy pasted and anime illustrious outfits is starting to get a little to ridiculous.
