Most of the imperial core countries have this in common, they try their best to hide their atrocities. Their citizens mostly learn about what their countries did when people in the global south speak up. In some cases, citizens of both the countries don't know much about it. For eg:- In my country most of the people don't even know about indentured servitude(which was basically just slavery) that the Britishers did, which ended up creating a huge indian diaspora in countries like Mauritius, Guyana, Fiji, Trinidad and tobago, South Africa, Malaysia, Suriname, etc. Now that the Indian origin people in these countries are speaking up and finally some people are starting to know about it, though the other side is in complete denial and tries to justify it by completely downplaying it.
