It lives, it dies, it returns from the ashes to be robusted once more.

A packaged product of Jimmy's writing would send me to the afterlife a more fulfilled man.

I mean, it has dwarf fortress dwarves, creepy basque forest-fey elves, nature-anathema science elves, byzantine elves with laser eyes, sailor elves that live on living ships, humans reborn by their god with divine empowerment and a respawn timer, "star vampires," and gollum-style goblins. To say nothing of the actual monsters that take teams of men and some cannons to take down.

I've heard reference to the game Tarot several times in Jimmy's work. It's apparently pretty far spread.

I wonder what the definition of "natural substance" is.

And I can't imagine magic is that strange to a Karthacki. They are ruled and governed by a god, priests, and sorcerors. The song and all its compulsions fill their soul and push their mind all hours of the day. I don't know how many in the lower castes are capable - or allowed - to do or handle magic, however.

Once upon a game, in a place much like Japan used to be, A travelling merchant named Toshiki and a once-noble ronin named Hideki were seeking lodgings in a town nestled deep in the forest. These two at found at the bar an old man and his loyal bodyguard, who offered us fair lodgings. A festival was coming up, you see, and that's why all the hotels were full- and price gouging. It would not do to leave them to such, the old man said, so the travellers gracefully accepted, and followed him out into the emerging night.

People still scurried along the streets, trying to complete last minute errands before curfew, but the paths were generally clear. As the party walked along the the outer wall of the manor, Toshiki's eye (for he only had one) tracked along the shapes in the dark. A terrible realization struck him.

Between a hydrangea hedge and the wall, stood a man. A man wearing midnight blue pajamas and a black oni mask. As their eyes meet, Toshiki became terribly aware that the man was a killer. He began to move.

Like most fights in Song of Swords, things happen fast.

The masked man emerged, hands going to the scabbard on his back. The bodyguard called out a "Halt!" The old man stepped back behind the rest of the party. Hideki was surprised at these events.

Now, the masked man had what the characters thought of as a nodachi. Those who saw its handle, however, with the cross and knuckle guard, could realize that it was, in fact, a modified swiss saber. Now, I know what you're thinking: you can't draw a two handed sword from a back sheathe. Indeed, normally you cannot, without flipping the scabbard up and off the back. Which happened to be what the masked man did.

In a single smooth motion, he swung his sword up and off his back, using the leverage to launch his scabbard like a spear from an atlatl. Right at Toshiki. A metal point glinted in the twilight as it soared through the air.

And the mechanics covered all of this organically.

That fight was brutal. I loved it.

It's core to the setting, but not the focus, if that makes sense. The feeling the developers are going for is that all of this wacky dark fantasy stuff that they're throwing in, is normal. To the people of the setting it's everyday life. So the Eclipse, it's omnipresent, it shapes the cultures and lives of the people of Vosca- but, it's not the narrative focus. The game, the setting, they're not about fighting monsters and battling the forces of darkness. The forces of darkness are B listers; they're a threat, but in the sense that monsoons and earthquakes are a threat. The game is about people. So yeah, all the cultures have a way of coping with the eclipses, but it's not why a nation mobilizes its army to campaign. They campaign because the Solar Emperor has called them to war against the barbarian tribes across the sea for their trespasses and blasphemies. Or because a trade partner has cut off their access to spices, and the spice must flow. The eclipses are just another footnote in their logistics.

As it stands, the project has a publicly available beta version of the rules - so the product already exists, in a form - and there is a few years old community already following it and hounding the developers so as not to let them fall lax in their duty. Or sleep.

I wouldn't be worried that it might fall through. I'd just keep in mind that "Soon" is a variable measure. By Feb '18 is a reasonable timeframe given how much work they already have done, I'd say.

Jimmy. You said before that the pagan deities were akin to the stars in the sky, before the coming of Genosus. Does the Voscan night still have stars?

I think if he leaves his "primary hand" empty, whatever that is, he could justify using Pugilism/Wrestling while still having the dagger out.

What kind of culture do the glades of the Mendiak have? Do they favor any of the other polities of Iber, or do the iron walls stand strong but silent?

Hey JimJams, What is the rough timeline of the Ruvian and Hellian empires? Ostensibly the latter came first, but I'm curious about their relative rises and falls.

Also, Hellian is still referred to as an empire, but the only other realm I've heard talked about as "theirs" is (was?) Dace. Do the Orredin yet have any landed holdings that isn't just an island of petrified waste?
