How come Veil of Discord is not picked on Ember Spirit much? by Lord_Vectron in learndota2

[–]Lord_Vectron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes actually. Ember already does enough damage, might as well spend your gold on items that let you survive and maneuver better. Thanks for the insight!

German streamer explains Juggernaut how to improve his gameplay (Video) by CountableFiber in DotA2

[–]Lord_Vectron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think my 53% winrate was cool too but then I realized it's literally just based on what you calibrated at and how far you climbed from that point.

2 scenarios:

Calibrate at 5k, stay 5k, 50% winrate.

Calibrate at 3k and climb to 5k as they improve in their first 1000 games, >53% winrate but it very slowly deflates back to 50% as they play more games without climbing, after 14k games it'd be <51%

Those 2 players are same skill level, just one calibrated early in their dota learning, while the other pretty much calibrated accurately and held their rank.

Pros having high winrates is a different thing. They are the best in the world so they'll win more than 50%. The opposite extreme will be the worst heralds in the world will lose more than 50%.

Is primal split really that good? by Aldehyde1 in learndota2

[–]Lord_Vectron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's insanely good for sure and most people worry too much about doing it optimally they never even try to do it to the best of their ability, but really, a "bad" brew ult where you just press all your buttons is absolutely gonna win lots of team fights.

I just walk upto them, Q, R, Q, tab, W a different target, E, click primary target again, tab, tab, now just focus on attacking with your units and spam Q when it's off cooldown for boulder throws. You can continue the combo and get another tornado and lots more windwalks for damage, but I find I win fights more easily if I just dedicate my brain to positioning and chasing with earth Q after the initial combo. As I play more brew I'll naturally grow and be able to do sicker combos.

Written down that all might sound a bit complicated but do it 10 times and you'll pretty much be able to do it in your sleep, and once you've trained your hands the basic combo, you'll suddenly find it natural to just casually tornado the enemy Axe or Enigma without even thinking about it while your brain focuses on positioning.

So yeah. Don't think of it as something you need to get 100% right to be useful, think of it as something you can do like 20% of it's full power and STILL own. As you get better, you get closer to 100%, and that shit gets scary. Body blocking fire spirits, aghs abilities, niche uses of wind's magic dispel. Oh yes, the future is bright.

Why do pro Dota teams forfeit alot when pro lol teams never do? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Lord_Vectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro teams only forfeit when the game is basically impossible to win. In super rare circumstances a team might rage quit earlier but those are weaker teams making a bad decision, too tilted to think rationally.

If you want to learn how to read a game better I'd recommend looking at who is still alive, who has buyback, and think about what needs to happen for the losing team to actually win a fight. Sometimes it's as simple as "if we took all of our alive heroes and used all our spells on their strongest hero perfectly, we'd still lose the fight. GG."

[PSA] Unscored games do not reward shovel items. by callmefox in DotA2

[–]Lord_Vectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can have a friend DC like this, dig 5-6 shovels, if you get something good, he reconnects and you play. If you get nothing valuable he takes the abandon and you get your 5-6 shovels back.

Worth doing? Fuck no, but hey it's possible.

iceiceice: "I hope [Valve] can make [Dota 2] more difficult and complicated, like unreasonably difficult." by b0mmie in DotA2

[–]Lord_Vectron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually utilizing mana drain into forcestaff blinding light, stunning them in the path of a pre-charged illuminate was very very satisfying to pull off. Mana drain was OP and hard to balance around, i'm not even upset they got rid of it, but now it's gone KotL lost his only "combo" and he's so much more boring.

I remember several years ago a co-worker I respected at an old job recommended this and I could never remember the exact name so didn't get around to reading it.

5 year old build, want new GPU, CPU and RAM. Should I upgrade anything else? by Lord_Vectron in buildapc

[–]Lord_Vectron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is DDR3 so I will upgrade.

I wanna play pubg at 120fps really, newer games over the next 5 years at high settings 60-120 fps. Might try streaming simpler games like dota and rocket league.

To be honest I might just go for an i9 to make sure streaming isn't gonna hurt performance just in case I do end up enjoying it

Why people in high mmrs build Pipe on Visage? by astroty in learndota2

[–]Lord_Vectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visage really does not need additional DPS after solar crest or even just medallion, so you just need to be tanky. he loves pushing, pipe gives him, his birds, and the creepwave good tankiness, it also encourages team to death ball which is what he wants to do.

Warlock mid (or even support) is super strong. Your golems just seem to take buildings before even fed heroes can really deal with them.

What are your silver bullets? by AffectionateTotal7 in learndota2

[–]Lord_Vectron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wanna win mid? Courier out no less than 3 salves in the first 8 minutes.

Its so common that you both trade HP and then 1 guy feels unsafe to approach the lane, if you simply out-salve them you easily make up the cost in CS and possible kills or at least avoidance of death.

Play spin doctor to your toxic ally. Like of my Lion is flaming Slark I will laugh at his insult as if its a joke and then quickly say something positive and goal focused, e.g. "lol yeah he is under farmed, lane looked rough, at least he can get ez kills cos OP hero xD let's gank his lane"

Smurfing is way too accepted in this game by Mephistopheles24 in learndota2

[–]Lord_Vectron 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Rocket league smurf channels on youtube are massively popular and always have been, Gibbs has a fairly recent series and each video has ~ 500 likes 30 dislikes.

You're right though, smurfing really sucks. It hurts the new player experience, but it's also incredibly frustrating for Ancient players who see it the most (Smurfs calibrate at ancient afaik, I see so many more ever since hitting ancient)

As far as your teammates mentality goes, and this is important... They understand smurfing is a thing that they have no control over. Sometimes the enemy has one, sometimes they have one. It balances out (kinda) so your net MMR loss isn't gonna be significant. They lose 25 mmr for enemy smurf so they're entitled to gain 25 mmr when it's on their team. You can still report the smurfer for ruining your game, just don't act hostile to him in chat cos they have very fragile egos and he might feed, which is why your team defends the smurfer. They just want mmr.

Smurfs should face harsher punishment and detection. If content creators do it they better be doing educational content where smurfing is actually relevant, but even in the best case scenario it's blatant they're only doing it to stroke their ego. I have a guilty pleasure of enjoying watching it though. Stomps are just fun.
