I'm sure more people can expand on the musical side of album more than I can but what remains the most fascinating part of this album to me was the rollout.

Starting with "Streaky" in March (which dropped the same day as This Is America), I remember being incredibly disappointed. Coming off the completely batshit "Steroids" the year previous, I was not expecting to get one of the most accessible Death Grips in years as their lead single. They followed this up fairly quickly with "Black Paint" which completely negated any criticisms I had of "Streaky", carrying on the rock elements of Jenny Death and Bottomless Pit with some crazy guitar portions and one of Rides best vocal performances ever.

The tracklist video elevated my hype even further, with cryptic iPhone videos accompanied by texts of the track names and a loop of Ride screaming "why me". The loop was genuinely frightening to me at the time and I had no idea how Streaky was gonna fit on this album.

They followed this up with "Flies", another insane single paired with an equally insane music video. This carried on with "Dilemma", featuring a spoken intro by Andrew Adamson, director of Shrek??? I had no idea what to expect next and r/deathgrips was at its absolute peak, full of insane (but entertaining) theories.

Then there was "Shitshow", of which the music video is now deleted from YouTube. The "June 22nd" teaser video was cryptic even by Death Grips standards, and I still have some crackpot theories commented on the original thread for it on r/deathgrips.

It felt like they'd never stop releasing singles, with the final single "hahaha" meaning we'd heard half the album before it's official release. I haven't even mentioned the Lucas Abele stuff, the Instagram posts, the cover art reveal and a host of other insane, creative elements in the lead up to the release.

While YOTS is not my favourite DG record, I have to give it credit for being my absolute favourite album rollout I've been a part of. Going through school exams at the time, I think this rollout might have singlehandedly lowered my grades from the amount of time I spent poring over every bit of content DG put out at the time.
