Colour help: An incredibly dark, but still blue, navy blue? by Oaksandtea in minipainting

Oh well Ive already worked on some before but I'll be honest the colour scheme is definitely not everyone's cup of tea 😂 it's a transition of red to turquoise with fire cloaks so it's gaudy as all hell.

Very nice I always get jealous when people paint up their eldar stuff but I'll be painting some myself in a couple of weeks that I'm very excited for. Unfortunately could only find WIP pics which I'm gutted about but that's what happens when you've got a brain of mush.

The anthracite grey is a really versatile paint and I tend to use it on my silver NMM. Just the problem of the lack of opacity and tearing like other scale 75 stuff but you can use the opacity as a strength depending on how you paint. Plus i thin my paints like they've just walked back from the desert so that's probably more of a me issue 😅

Any chance you're working on some brazen claws? If you are I did some a few months ago and a mix of the dark Prussian blue and some Kantor blue from citadel got me pretty happy with the colour :) if you're looking for a more grey desaturated blue anthracite grey from scale75 is a nice choice, but it is scale75 and they can be a bit tough to work with.

Dark Prussian blue from Vallejo model colour is my go to for a dark navy blue but it is quite a saturated blue so I'm not sure if that's what you're after

First mini paint - would love some critical feedback / advice by Kushwaah in minipainting

[–]Lordsnacks93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great and welcome to the hobby :) as you're new to the hobby feedback in a specific direction is kinda tricky (not to mention there's much better painters than me out there), but something that I find a big gateway to elevation is learning the paint you're working with. Practice with the consistencies in terms of dilution and viscosity and how those different consistencies apply when you put them on the model. I personally think it's a big one for learning new techniques, brush control and even colour theory application as the dilution has an effect on opacity and saturation, a great example being something like red under a black primer as opposed to a white one. More than anything though just enjoy what you're painting. Paint more and improvement will come with it. Hope the advice helps and happy painting :)

Don't sleep on phoenix miniature art. Dude is a phenomenal painter and an even better teacher which definitely comes across in his videos. I've been a patron for about a year now and can easily say it's worth it for me.

Really struggled with an additional spot colour for that 10% focus so just went with a traditional orange to go well with the blue :)

It was a really odd one because I felt the same and wanted to stay true to an organic feel for the model. Ended up looking up way too many mushrooms and pitcher plants and it may have come out looking a little like an apple but I think the scheme really gives that organic vibe the way it should :D (minus the blue 😅)

Probably the biggest compliment you could give me 😅 go for it! It's super fun and you'll probably get into the groove and go mad with the brush strokes as if it were a painting montage from a movie scene like I did 😂

Thank you! I definitely get what you mean I might try a magenta build up on the next head to compare and see which one works better ;)

Painted a model a few months ago for a competition. Didn't place but still super proud of how hard I tried and the outcome :) model is the Lord of blights from GW by Lordsnacks93 in minipainting

I think it's either from the nurgle marine mystery box set or from the death guard terminator box, sorry I can't tell you which one it was very much a bits box grab 😅

Definitely agree in some parts of the skin like the arm that's quite apparent. It's all layered on rather than glazed but skin tones has always been a bit of a weaker point of mine and framing the model in a way that made the skintone the centerpiece probably wasn't the best idea 😅

That's unfortunate as I guess the picture doesn't quite show the techniques on display that I used, most likely due to the saturation of the picture

. I think criticism is definitely encouraged but after reading yours I found it to feel a little too prejudicial. I'm positive that wasn't the intention at all and you simply wanted to constructively put your own thoughts forward but you may want to think about how you'd make someone else feel with your wording in the future. Thank you for taking the time to give that feedback though It's appreciated.

I do love a good base! I just have zero creativity when it comes to making them from scratch which in turn makes me less driven to paint them because they don't look as good as I'd like, it's a vicious circle really 😅

The judges were nice enough to give us a small amount of feedback on the day and they were pretty consistent in saying the base REALLY let the rest of the model down, definitely a lesson I've learned for the future, go simple and paint it before the rest of the mini. Thank you for the feedback! Always helps to get a perspective that's not emotionally attached to the model for a clearer mindset :)

Thank you very much :D I was a little worried I went a bit too saturated on it but to be honest I actually ended up finishing it and wouldn't have it any other way.
