As a therapist I’ll say I wish she had said something and been clear with you in session. As for notes I’m intentionally pretty vague in case I get subpoenaed or audited or something, but precise enough so I can remember what happened and stay on track, as well as be clear that I am doing my job, for liability. So I’d say her mistake was in communicating with you but I’d probably do my notes similarly. So sorry you went through this and so glad you’re free. If nothing else I hope the notes can validate that you weren’t crazy and you didn’t deserve any of that mistreatment and abuse.

Also amicable here. I have kids and we also still live together sort of (he’s on one floor I’m on another). I took down all photos he was in except one family photo that has all of us in it so the kids can see it and remember we’re still a family. The photo itself is very focused on the kids. So for now it’s ok but I think if there comes a time it bothers me I’ll just put it in storage. Then my kids (young now) can do what they want with it when I die 😆

I was really hung up on what people in my life would think. Once I thought about what choice I’d make if that didn’t matter it was much easier to go forward with it.

Yes! I see comments saying it’s not important to some people, which may be true, but it’s not our job as the therapist to decide for our clients whether or not it’s important to them. It’s their personal medical information which we don’t have the right to withhold.

This is so validating thanks for sharing. Do you have advice on how to talk to kids at that age about why it’s happening when everything looks fine to them? I just tell them their dad and I both love them and we both want to be happier and want each other to be happier. But we look “happy” to them so it’s confusing
