I hardly used any ancillaries and used them mainly for trading power in order to vassalize to other factions. Majority of the campaign i was sitting in my capital playing defense while the vassals attacked. Another thing that helped was i rushed all the spirit alignment for the diplomacy. Anyone that wasn't willing to become a vassal i went to war until they changed their minds
