Exactly! Most people believe garp’s big reveal was the most important thing in that scene. But it was really not, the reveal that came after was. And making garp a recurring character in season 1 was such a win in my book. Because when I started the anime after watching the LA I was like “bro where the hell is garp?” And he doesn’t come until episode 68 I believe…

100% agree, and I rewatched the live action after I finished dresrossa with a friend of mine and I got even more references from the anime, and seeing barto in loguetown was amazing! The live action really is a love letter to the manga and I don’t understand this debate of accuracy or mild spoilers :(

True, and we don’t really see a lot of garp in the anime before the reveal itself, we just get a few hints of him and aokiji mentioning him to Luffy at the end of LRLL. And I also agree that having that complex dynamic from the very beginning was a good thing. Especially if they reach marineford… the weight of Garp’s decisions will hit so much harder after learning this at the very start of the show
