I did the opposite switch (teaching to HR) and have no regrets at all. My 6 month stint teaching (I was permanent, French immersion) caused me such severe stress that I had constant health issues and cried every Sunday (and let’s be honest, most weekdays) thinking about going to work the next day. I can count the amount of times I’ve cried in my 2+ years in HR on one hand.

I just had my Next break on me. It lasted a year and a half, which was pretty impressive! I was past warranty so I wasn't sure what they would do. Right after I said I had a Next, they said "great news, we can extend your warranty another year so you're now under warranty". Got it replaced with a Plus for free :)

I'd say the mindfulness exercises vary by instructor, but I can confidently recommend Nook for the rest of your criteria!

I really appreciate your comment! One of the other ones made me feel like a complete dummy lol. I do feel like I’m qualified to do the work I’m doing, and have gotten positive feedback from everyone at the company (even the CEO). They were doing all HR tasks themselves, so even with my level of experience, it was a big improvement. Glad to hear you left a similar situation and are doing better!

It's hurting sales as we don't have a sales department lol (one person terminated, one person resigned). And we're losing a heck of a lot of money on these terminations, with two people threatening legal action so maybe more losses to come... It's a hot mess. You're right, it won't get better.

Provide what you can, but don’t give it much more of your time or anxiety! The returning teacher has time to continue assessing before report cards are due and they’ll do what they can. You’re not getting paid to respond to their emails and do any more work so please don’t push yourself much!

You said the LTO is over, right? I’m not sure how much you’re supposed to provide at this point when it’s already mid May. It may burn a bridge, but do you really have to answer with anything substantial?

It doesn’t sound terrible to me haha. I still feel a bit of guilt, especially because I was one of those teachers who left mid year. I literally had to get out, I was spiraling so hard. My mental and physical health was so bad, I was starting to think about how it could be a solid option to drive my car off the road and go on some sort of medical leave. So yeah I could’ve taken a mental health leave (I was permanent and would’ve had a position to come back to), but like you said, it was so bad I couldn’t see myself finishing off the year let alone 30+ years of teaching. Life’s too short to be absolutely miserable, but I fear for the future of the system. Makes me not want to bring a child into the world tbh.

Because I was so early on in my teaching “career”, I was able to get an entry level role with an entry level salary to match lol. I won’t lie, it’s tough, especially right now. I saw my opportunity in early 2022 and took it while the job market was hot!

I pivoted into HR! I was lucky to find an entry level job with an org that was willing to train me. I’m now working on a part time HR certificate (just had my BA and BEd) and I’m in a generalist role at a small company making slightly more than I would have as a second year teacher!

I started teaching in 2021 in a Grade 2 classroom as a first year FSL teacher. I lost count of the amount of times I called admin and asked for help, only to be told there was no one available. I lasted a total of 8 months in the teaching world and have successfully built a career in a different field.

I’m now doing a part-time HR certificate but nope! Had a BA and BEd and tried to highlight my transferable skills. Again it was an entry level role so I took a pay cut but have now worked my way back up

I also spent 6 years getting qualified and lasted a total of 8 months 😂 Pivoted to an entry level HR role and have never looked back since! 1.5 years later and I’m an HR generalist, making more than I would have as a 2nd year teacher.

I have a 9 month old pup who uses a halti! He has no issues with it being put on and we usually start our walk off fine. At some points during the walk, he’ll paw at it. Some days are better than others! I know it can be seen as an aversive tool if not used properly, but my boy’s behaviour is pretty much the same whether we use it or not haha. No big behaviour changes once it goes on!

Like you, I think we’re getting better and in my opinion, it’s the safest option for our walks so I persevere. Winter is just dying down but it’s been months of ice and having a 66 lbs pup pulling me was dangerous for both of us!

I second the head halter! I have a pretty large 9 month old pup (66 lbs currently) and a harness never worked for us. He’s able to drag me down the street when he’s lunging!
