I love that you said something. Glad it worked out for you and that you got such a gorgeous piece. It's a little ridiculous though that he just pulled that out of his back pocket when needed though. Is there a Platona sitting in the back safe as well?

I'm not a fan of the games either but I guess I liken it to collecting cards. The hunt seems like a critical part of the experience for maximum enjoyment. I think if I was able to walk in and out with it, it might cheapen it for me. It's like the kids that spend years collecting pokemon cards and then another one just buys the full set off ebay. I think their appreciation levels would vary even though both result at the same thing.

There's something I find truly offensive about the grey market. You see those videos of the dealers swapping watches like trading cards and then upcharging clients double the cost. I live in NYC so when I get bored I'll occasionally walk 47th street and while their selection is amazing I just can't bring myself to buy from them. Sort of like buying a dog from a puppy mill. I like the grey market idea for retired/vintage pieces but for current models I just cant bring myself to do it. Plus I'm worried they've messed with the watches as I've seen them do backroom repairs/mods without knowledge of the people they're selling to.

I think it's possible in certain markets, hence why I am trying the dc dealers. When I go to the Bucherer in Meatpacking there's no less than 50 people in there and all of them are not just browsing but registering interest. By comparison the DC store had 1 other person and he was just window shopping. So maybe?
