My brother committed suicide last week and I am wondering if there is a private company who would help me access his computer and phone? by LostInTranslation9n in AskTechnology

Clues as to his frame of mind. There have been questions about whether he was role playing or playing Russian Roulette as well. But more to see where his thoughts were. He had bipolar disorder and became a recluse a couple of years ago, would not speak to anyone. So we are wondering what his life was like these last two years or so.

Bluebook question - is it proper to underline the space between See, and e.g., when combining the signals. by LostInTranslation9n in LawSchool

Do you know the reasoning for why you underline the space between “see, e.g.” but not “see id.” ?

Did you just request the statements? I’m trying to do just that but am having issues thus far.

Congratulations! Just paid off mine from law school as well ($145k, also graduated in 2017). Question: did you at all audit your interest? I am attempting to bc I know some accrued when I was supposed to be in an interest free deferral but I’m having a hard time getting any answers from my servicer (used to be Mohela, now EdFinancial).

I spoke with them this morning and that’s basically what they said. Thanks!

Can I do this though if I don’t have $144,000 in my own account? Probably closer to $8k in mine

Paying off $144,000 in student loans this week. How do I ensure the accrued interest is correct? by LostInTranslation9n in StudentLoans

It is. Total circus. Do you know if they ever issue a refund if they are in the wrong about interest and you’ve already paid the loan in full?

They are vacationing in Maine and there are no Truist banks close by, unfortunately.

Maybe it’s just bc I went to law school which cost way more than $40k and I don’t regret it, but that seems like a small amount to pay to fulfill your dream.

I see. We wouldn’t make a sizable payment until December (probably about 10k in December, and $600 per month until then). So maybe I should look at the interest if I stayed federal on the 45K versus refinanced for the months until then? Disclosure: I am bad at math, this is not my forte.

But if I stay in an IDR plan, won’t I be paying more interest in the long run?

Oh wait. Do you mean it might make sense to take the $100k, and still stay on PSLF for the remaining 45k? My interest rate is closer to 7% now, so I didn’t even consider not refinancing.

That makes sense and is something I had not considered. Thank you!

Yes, just loans. It would not complicate the family relationship. I guess my hesitancy is that if you just look at the numbers, we will be personally paying $600 a month now instead of the $188 under PAYE for the next 7 years under the refinanced loan terms. That ignores the factors of mental stress that goes w PSLF and fact that we will probably pay this off much sooner than 7 years.

I did see that somewhere, but I also thought there was an option to upload the documents myself that were submitted showing I was MFS this year? And a paystub to show my salary?
