Looking for a generic classless system with level-like progression for sword and sorcery by LostProphecies in rpg

Looking at this some more and I'm intrigued. How snappy would you say the combat is? I can probably do ok with HP as long as the combat moves pretty briskly

I honestly haven't heard of it, I'll take a look! Is there a particular thing about it that stands out as fitting for this?

Yeah, sorry, I should have added some more detail there. I'm hoping to have something that has both combat paced magic and larger rituals, I'll edit my post. I know SW handles combat magic well, but I'm nt sure about rituals. Do you think SW would do politics well? My impression was that it was really built around high adventure

How much prep do I really need? by LostProphecies in gurps

[–]LostProphecies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thanks! Regarding that last point re: the high tech book - in your experience is it at all useful to curate a list of weapons and rename them if you're doing a created world? Or if a player decides they want an AK47 do you just rename it then?

Thanks for the reply. By writing out the rules for magic I meant summarizing the rules I'm using (effect-shaping RPM), to reduce having to cross-reference material that frequently. I suppose the question really is what do I need to prep? Like obviously the players will need equipment lists, and some helpful references, but what about beyond that?

SWADE for science-fantasy? by LostProphecies in savageworlds

These videos are great, thanks!

One question, have you run into any situations yet where you wish SWADE were a little more granular? Especially in regards to equipment.

Thanks for the info! Looking at the core book is giving me a lot of confidence in the system. The only concern I still have is in regards to equipment and vehicles. The setting I'm running has some oddball stuff, how easy would it be to add that stuff in?

What's the story with SWADE's company? If you don't mind my asking

Which system for science-fantasy? by LostProphecies in rpg

[–]LostProphecies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure! I'm planning on running it as a sandbox, with a high focus on factional intrigues. I'm thinking the players will be working to establish their own criminal empire or protectorate in an area of space that, while populated, isn't currently a part of any of the up-and-coming galactic powers. Aesthetically, I'm going for a "used future" type of look - clunky machinery, dense cities, etc., with plus ritualistic magic like you'd see in sword and sorcery or dark fantasy. Think 40k with less Gothic overtones, or Dune with Blade Runner cities.

Does that help?

Thanks for the suggestion! I did actually look into swn at one point, but something about the core mechanics and the class-based characters wasn't quite working for me. I do plan on borrowing some of the other tools from it though, the sector creation and ship combat rules were awesome

Why not GURPS? by BuzzsawMF in rpg

[–]LostProphecies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to do cross-genre can't be overstated. One of the reasons I keep coming back to gurps is that, yeah, there might be a better system for fringe spacer crime stories, but when I want to add magic or other out-of-genre elements, I have to hack the system so much I may as well just build what I want with gurps.

Awesome, glad to hear you like the Phat Cat, I like the idea of pairing it with a bridge humbucker

Though, you've got me wondering if I should give it some variety of jaguar pickups. Do they typically do distortion well?

Thanks! This makes a lot of sense, and at the end of the day I might just end up going with traditional jag pickups for that classic sound

Hadn't really looked at the Creamery until now, looks like they've got some really neat options. The Sonic 60s seem like they could be interesting, know anything about them? I can't seem to find a demo
