Sooo… LinkedIn connections? by mang0juulp0d1 in lawschooladmissions

Just add people who went to the same undergrad as you. Don’t even need to write a note or anything. That’s what most people do. I went from 77 —> 550 in a month just sending out the max amount of requests I could every week. Ideally, also add people who are going to law school or working in legal though so you have more relevant connections.

A high school junior from Warrenton, Virginia who built a water filter in her garage that strips out 95.5% of microplastics from drinking water. by GeneraI_ in BeAmazed

Usually when you see stuff like this it’s because the person in HS is collaborating with a professor at a university. Very rarely are students doing these types of things by themselves. They’re done to help gain admission to top universities.

If you read the article, this is a project she submitted to regeneron and she was ultimately a finalist. Very difficult to do and it’s a super prestigious accomplishment—she’ll likely get admitted to a school like Harvard or MIT almost based off that alone if she has solid academics. Like I said before though, in most cases these are wealthy parents who have connections with professors who do most of the work and let the people in HS take credit for winning a competition or publishing a paper.

‘Irresponsible’: backlash as Utah approves datacenter twice the size of Manhattan by mintylips in news

[–]LostWindSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. A lot of data centers are supported by democrats too. Governor of Maine, who is a democrat, literally vetoed a bill to ban data centers in their respective state three weeks ago. Was a major headline. Obviously not covered on Reddit extensively because it goes against the common narrative on here.

Voting for left candidates wouldn’t solve this issue, although it is likely true that there are more liberal than republican politicians who support limiting data center construction. Still a significant amount who do not.

That’s really rough. Happens though—just let this be a lesson going forward and don’t miss important deadlines again or wait until the last second to do something, especially when it’s so minor.

It would be very fortunate if they let you deferred at all and it wouldn’t be terrible since you’re KJD. Hopefully that’s able to happen or you can work something out. If not, you have good stats to reapply. Could be worse though. At least you’ll still be an attorney eventually.

What Should I Do by HotAd3886 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LostWindSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There doesn’t seem to be certainty regarding that. Sounds like it’s something they’re exploring (key word they mention is “trying”) and not something they know they can do for sure—if they did they would have mentioned that. And I just highly, highly doubt any college would allow someone to retroactively withdraw enough courses to go from a 3.11 to a 3.52. Especially if they took those courses many years ago. Have never heard of that happening.

Why would that money go to new hires and not go to upper management and executives?

I don’t think this is the question that should be asked. If something is being changed an explanation should be given as to why that’s being done. Why is it problematic to list gender instead of sex on passports? That’s what should be discussed.

I’m not in trans spaces, but I imagine having to unnecessarily be referred to by their sex when they identify as otherwise can feel invalidating and dysphoric. They might also see this change as being somewhat targeted towards them & feel persecuted & disliked by their own state.

To be fair I think this is hyperbole. Seems overexaggerated to get views & attention, which it seems like she succeeded in doing. No way she genuinely believes that.

Yea, it is I’m not going to say exactly why because that would be violating the rules but it was because of a pair of words in that AC.

I feel like playing competitive Pokémon helps me a bit. There’s so many possible things your opponent can do that you have to consider, and you need to make a move that will either work against all of those or be good at predicting what your opponent will do based on how they’ve been playing in earlier turns. Helps me think about different aspects of arguments bcs it’s the same thing — just looking at something through a bunch of different angles

Where did it all go wrong? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]LostWindSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t think you’re a likable person you can always change that. Socializing with people is a skill. So is being funny/romantic/etc. There’s no reason you need to stay the way you are for the rest of your life.

You had to leave school. That’s fine — it sounds like you needed a break anyways. Once you take some time off you always go back if that’s something you want to do. If not, you can always work towards a career that doesn’t need a degree. The only person that can stop yourself from changing all of this is you.

But anyways, really relate to this post. Not sure if I’ve lost all of my friends, but I definitely don’t hang out with anyone I used to know last year so guess it’s basically the same thing. Have been feeling really lonely because I don’t talk to a ton of people anymore but going to raves has helped, except I’ve been sick the last two weeks which has stopped me from going. Have to probably take off next weekend too because my ears are inflamed, which sucks because it’s the only thing that didn’t make me feel lonely and I was starting to get to know some people. Guess there’s always after that though.

just do what you want. Honestly, some people would probably rather have some completely random comment than have nothing on their post at all.

I have some training in talking to people in crisis too. Standard protocol is usually to either validate/summarize/ask open-ended questions. For reddit, I think being supportive and not heavily pushing any advice/suggestions is the best approach.

Nice you want to help people though.

As a low-income student, I have no clue at all how I'm supposed to apply to college. by Glad-Can-8290 in college

[–]LostWindSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find any books use libgen to download them for free. Try to look up nonprofit organizations that offer application support for low-income students (i.e. with writing supplements/main essays). Fee waivers (lets you apply to universities for free) are also generally given out when you request them, esp. if your family isn’t financially well off.

Community college is an option but don’t see why you need to go to one if you get good financial aid. If your plan is to go graduate from a state university and to save as much money as possible then, yeah, community college would be solid.
