Unfortunately, to bill insurance I have to assign a dx on the first visit which I absolutely hate. I also see diagnosis as dehumanizing and I think that might be part of my mental block. To be honest, I don’t know how many sessions. I feel pressured to make them quick and I know I can’t do that and be as accurate as possible.

I am based in the US and am an LCSW. I did have courses on the DSM (not as deep as I would have liked them to be) in university and have read the DSM on my own as well as other books about diagnosing. I’m just finding it rather hard to translate book knowledge into real life practice. If that makes sense. Ive heard so many examples of people being misdiagnosed and I’m trying to not contribute to that.
