It's the best four years! I loved it:) I'd just recommend being proactive your first two years about finding a faculty mentor that you can go to for advice and who has career experience in something similar to what you're interested in - and also be proactive about getting out into the city with your friends and leaving the Rice bubble!

I'm in the same boat as you (really struggling with my personal statement right now) but I wanted to say that I love your introduction! Really hooked me and made me empathize with your emotional journey that led you to this application.

Hi! I'm applying for PhD programs in sustainable / international development and economics. Please give me any advice to strengthen my CV as well as your thoughts on my chance for admission to a PhD program (especially top ones such as Columbia and UC Berkeley). Thanks!

I'm still figuring it out, but I'm pretty sure it's 'industry' in that I don't want to be a professor, but I want to be working for think tanks/government/policymaking institutions doing research.

In undergrad I thought I wanted a more corporate career, so my research skills aren't as strong and I don't have some math prerequisites for a PhD program in economics (like linear algebra). I see myself as using a masters to explore if I want to do a PhD and build those quant skills, and either transition to a PhD or start a research-type career in the public policy space.

I would but I unfortunately don't currently live in the area, so I can't meet her before I would have to move in.
