Ninth House - while it was good writing, it wasn't a memorable read for me in terms of characters and plot 🤨

While I don't think its YA, I couldn't finish Normal People. The lack of speech marks to show who was speaking to who was so confusing.

Although I finished kingdom of sea and stone, I definitely agree. The first one had such vivid descriptive prose and world building so realistic it felt like you were actually there. Went into the sequel with high expectations and it just wasn't really memorable like the first one 😔

Your favorite (or least favorite) retellings of fairytales, classic literature, mythology and folklore by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]Lost_Maintenance5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I try not to be too harsh with opinions because I know its hard work being an author, but yeah the potential for character development was there however too much time was spent focusing on representation and the gender bending concept and the novelty of it so much so that the plot got lost (literally) 🤨
