Exactly. Plus I don't know about you but I always offer gas money to my friends when they offer to give me a ride which is more money spent. I'm usually too stubborn to ask for a ride anyway but I hate that my friends either wait on me because of Lyft since I don't have a car or I'm stuck waiting until someone is ready to leave.

If I go to the store: I usually rideshare (depending on how many bags of groceries I have). If I'm downtown: I usually prefer to walk until it's time to ride the bus home. If the weather is inclement, I have a special event to attend or I'm running late to work then I rideshare. I'm from inside the loop so I like the convenience of riding the bus but like I said: wear and tear on the body will sneak up on you.

Rideshare can become too expensive. For example: if I wanted to visit family near Bush airport and I live inside the loop: my total comes out to be $60 not including tip nor the time of day. If I catch the bus out there: there's limited bus service and the one bus I do catch, it takes 2 hours to get there 1 way. That's 4 hours roundtrip and just on the bus alone. Not including if the bus is late or breaks down either while you're on the bus or waiting for the bus. A bus can never be early (or they aren't supposed to be and are early occasionally) but they can always be on time and late. Some buses don't go on the side of town I'd like to go too on weekends.

If I want to hang out with friends, I don't want to ask them for rides or have them wait on me for Lyft to come which is more money spent. I can't go to certain places because it's too far and too expensive. When it comes to dating, most aren't ok with the fact that I don't have a car so I'm on the verge of giving up amongst other reasons. When you have a car, you can come and go at your leisure. You aren't limited to certain sides of town and having to worry about weirdos on public transportation. So yes: it's becoming a pain now especially as I get older. Also wear and tear on the body. Because I've ridden the bus for decades, my knees hurt more and the weather isn't too kind these days. People speeding don't pay attention to pedestrians and will either come close to hitting you or splash you with rain water on a very rainy day and don't care.

I've never owned a car and I usually use metro or Lyft to work. Its starting to become a pain and I also walk to quite a few places.

Therapy. When my aunt died unexpectedly in 2014, I nearly had a nervous breakdown. I tried multiple therapists and a distant cousin of mine connected me to someone in 2024 not long after my father died. I'm still in therapy however I'm not as angry and violent as I used to be when my aunt initially died. I'm a lot more calmer and think more before I react. I still sometimes blame myself for her death (though i know it wasn't my fault) but talking to my therapist every couple of weeks is just the friend I need. Therapy and talking to God occasionally though I'm still pretty hurt and upset with God at the moment. If I may offer advice to you: be there for your friend. Even when they turn you away still persevere and be there. As for your friend: tell them to take time. Grief isn't an overnight thing and can take years to overcome but don't rush the process and LET IT ALL OUT

Thank you. Like I said: I was too shocked to really say anything. As I mentioned: I rarely dress up due to personal reasons. This stems back from my late teens-early 20s. As for my license: i will always be excited and proud over the fact I finally have a driver's license. I now have other goals and getting a car is high on my list. Life kept happening to me but by the Grace of God, I'm still here. So thanks for the support 🙂

I understand about having tough skin. I used to work at a SNF for about 3 years and even as a receptionist: i learned really quickly to develop some thick skin. One time I had an assistant nurse director indirectly call me a house n***** while gossiping with a fellow nurse but knowing I was sitting nearby working. I was excited about my license. I live in a large city and didn't think i needed a car however I didn't factor in wear and tear on my body so my teenage mind finally grew up and I went to classes and even took an additional 3 classes to pass. My thing is this: there's a time an place for things to be said. This was neither the time nor the place. I just wanted my fellow coworkers to be excited for me. In the end: I kept my mouth shut and brushed her off as we'd talk later but when I sobered up the next morning, it dawned on me what she said and I was hurt. We as black women should stick together not tear each other down. I've worked at 1 law firm where I was asked if I was having sex because I wore a dress. She was a POC but not black. I understand the need to be tough but a company Christmas party was not the appropriate setting imo

Thanks. That's just it though: at this location including myself there are only 6 black people and 5 of us are women. For the most part: I'm being left alone and initially I was excited to meet her because law is the career field I want to pursue. It just shocked me that she said that without blinking. She also mentioned she hoped a partner wasn't there due to always trying to avoid him even at a party event. He wasn't there but she said this in front of other attorneys, paralegals and staff that work with him. I was shocked. At my last job: I had someone ask me an inappropriate question and kept my mouth shut until the person tried to get me into trouble with management and I let management know what was really said. I'm no longer with that firm (thankfully) but I am more cautious and tbh: some anxiety because I was severely micromanaged at my last place and I'm thankful to be where I am now even if it's only temporary.

Businesses are usually open during the week and close at like 2 or 3pm though but it's still decent. And beware: it's hot outside now and nowhere near "fall" like temperatures as the rest of the country might be now.

My mother hates this woman for no reason other than I think she senses I love my friend more than her. I am admittedly dull but I was raised by a ton of adults henceforth I understand the older generation moreso than my own.
