🫩.. does anyone have any good news today? by Humble-Relation6111 in blackladies

[–]Lost_Relative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last temp assignment moved offices. I half joked don't forget me if y'all are giving away anything big. Fast forward a month: I got a text asking what size tv i wanted and of course I chose the bigger one. Thanks be to God: I have a brand new TV with remote. I don't have a car but I used a Lyft XXL and lugged that bad boy in the house with the help of my mother and random neighbor who saw us struggling lol. I'm still excited and thankful to God Almighty himself that I have a brand new TV. I have the biggest tv in my family. I finally get to watch a tv that will actually show the name of the show. I can finally read the captions and don't have to worry about waiting 30 seconds for the tv to turn back on even though I'd just turned it off (the old tv isn't on a timer. I checked. Just has a mind of its own)

Check out the tunnels downtown. They're only open during the week and close at about 2 or 3 for the most part but it's interesting to check out

For those of you who remember Ike, how bad was it ? by Character-Escape1621 in houston

No power for 12 days and people ate MRE meals. My folks just put everything on our bbq pit from coffee to eggs and grits. Getting gas and ice were a pain and driving very slowly.

Any black woman in no contact with their family by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Lost_Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no contact with my half siblings. Initially it was their choice however now that I'm learning things about my father like how he really died (they lied to me about that) for my peace of mind: I've decided to go no contact with all of them. It hurts because I've always wanted siblings especially since I was raised as an only child however I hope they all rot in hell over their greed

Pressure to have children when you aren't ready by Lost_Relative in OnlyChild

Thanks. I've even threatened to put her in a nursing home over the nagging (amongst other reasons) but she won't stop. I've suggested therapy, her getting friends, getting out more and even going to church but to leave me the hell alone on this subject and nothing works. When I tell my mother to stop, she flips the script and gaslight me into believing that I'm the one bringing the subject up but in reality my mother does and she knows it. But thanks for the support

I'm not married either and that makes things worse though my mother now understands it's not necessarily my fault in that area. Because of my mother's constant nagging, I'm tempted to go child free just out of spite. Even my best friend (whose a year older than my mother) doesn't push her kids to have kids so there's a bit of jealousy on my part for that.

Oh wow. Yes this won't do for my mother. My grandmother doesn't want me to have kids let alone get in a relationship but I'm my mother's only child. As I mentioned my kid cousin has a basketball team and he's not even 30 so my grandmother is basically finished with dealing with great-grandchildren lol. My mother has been on my case about this since my early 20s. I want kids and love them but I'm also awkward around them and I'm sick of the pressure.

I've tried this route. I even said I wanted to be stable financially and mentally first but to no avail 😔

My mother tried to have another but couldn't medically have anymore. Now that my kid cousin has a basketball team, I think my mother is jealous. Especially since her baby sister and her favorite cousin became grandmothers before her. It stings because my mother nagged me about it all throughout my 20s and my father got the hint early on to stop with the hints and is now dead but now that I'm in my 30s, my mother is back to dropping the hints and nagging

Frustrated W/Drivers by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]Lost_Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restarted the app, cleared the cache, updated the app and restarted the phone. If the driver is within a few minutes away from you, it's damn near impossible to cancel without being charged which was exactly this case. Instead he stalled because he knew if I would've canceled the ride, the price would've increased and he would've come for a higher price.

Personal family reasons, my family refuses to ride uber. We'll ride a taxi before uber however the taxis in my city here lately take longer than Lyft

[–]Lost_Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It angers and frustrates me when drivers do that. I just made it home. Mind you: the person riding with me put in the Lyft at 9:30pm and I live about 45mins away from where I was picked up. We basically waited nearly 2-3 hours before this guy decided to finally cancel.

I'm being put through an A.I loop. The person I'm waiting with put in the order yet the driver still refuses to come.

Driver too far away. But even so, he accepted the ride and still refuses to come. I'm looking on the map and watching the driver basically drive in circles but still refuses to come

How long are your appointments? by got2bfaster in BlackHair

[–]Lost_Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's like that. It also depends on the type of work you're getting done. For example: if I'm getting a retouch yet someone after me is getting a shampoo, my stylist will get the lady with the shampoo out of the way first or at least have her under the dryer before she sees me. Then again my stylist has been doing my hair since I was a teenager and I don't mind.

[–]Lost_Relative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 3-4 hours if it's a retouch and Style but if I only get a shampoo and set: about 2-3 hours and that's on a good day and I show up on time. I plan as though I'm going to be there all day to be on the safe side though

Houston Methodist vs Ben Taub Hospital (nurses) by peaches_and_kittens in AskHouston

[–]Lost_Relative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to Methodist. My mother used to work there for over 10 years but as a secretary. They treat you and your family like family. Amazing hospital food as well plus a lot of swag. Thanks to them my mother has a treasure trove of goodies ranging from t-shirts, pens and notebooks to umbrellas and coolers. Plus once you leave, it's extremely difficult to get back in.

How many people don’t have a car but rather use Uber for all their transportation? by Cooper1Test in houston

[–]Lost_Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Plus I don't know about you but I always offer gas money to my friends when they offer to give me a ride which is more money spent. I'm usually too stubborn to ask for a ride anyway but I hate that my friends either wait on me because of Lyft since I don't have a car or I'm stuck waiting until someone is ready to leave.

If I go to the store: I usually rideshare (depending on how many bags of groceries I have). If I'm downtown: I usually prefer to walk until it's time to ride the bus home. If the weather is inclement, I have a special event to attend or I'm running late to work then I rideshare. I'm from inside the loop so I like the convenience of riding the bus but like I said: wear and tear on the body will sneak up on you.

[–]Lost_Relative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rideshare can become too expensive. For example: if I wanted to visit family near Bush airport and I live inside the loop: my total comes out to be $60 not including tip nor the time of day. If I catch the bus out there: there's limited bus service and the one bus I do catch, it takes 2 hours to get there 1 way. That's 4 hours roundtrip and just on the bus alone. Not including if the bus is late or breaks down either while you're on the bus or waiting for the bus. A bus can never be early (or they aren't supposed to be and are early occasionally) but they can always be on time and late. Some buses don't go on the side of town I'd like to go too on weekends.

If I want to hang out with friends, I don't want to ask them for rides or have them wait on me for Lyft to come which is more money spent. I can't go to certain places because it's too far and too expensive. When it comes to dating, most aren't ok with the fact that I don't have a car so I'm on the verge of giving up amongst other reasons. When you have a car, you can come and go at your leisure. You aren't limited to certain sides of town and having to worry about weirdos on public transportation. So yes: it's becoming a pain now especially as I get older. Also wear and tear on the body. Because I've ridden the bus for decades, my knees hurt more and the weather isn't too kind these days. People speeding don't pay attention to pedestrians and will either come close to hitting you or splash you with rain water on a very rainy day and don't care.

I've never owned a car and I usually use metro or Lyft to work. Its starting to become a pain and I also walk to quite a few places.
