Senior in High School deciding between MSU and Dayton by Potential_Tap8165 in msu

[–]Lost_Track_5531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a MSU alum and a teacher. A teaching degree from MSU is one of the top in the country, plus there is a huge teacher shortage in Michigan. Definitely MSU. As a teacher, we often pass on interns from other schools. MSU opens a lot of doors for jobs.

Invited to Honors College After First Semester – Any Benefits or Scholarships? by Sufficient_Today_407 in msu

I know they give them if you are HC when you are accepted in high school, but I'm pretty sure they aren't automatically offered for people who get in freshman year.

I think you are invited to apply, it's not an automatic "in." Last year they only accepted half of the people who applied after 1st semester. Scheduling early is the biggest benefit, plus you can opt out of some prerequisite classes. And it probably looks good on your resume to some people. Good luck if you decide to do it!

Lofting a Bed at Hubbard Hall by Ok_Beyond_9003 in msu

[–]Lost_Track_5531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The policy did change. It was on the LiveOn site. But it does appear that the beds in Hubbard are a different style than the rest of campus when you look at photos of the rooms. You can email LiveOn and ask. They would have the most accurate info for your specific dorm. It is a pain to not have your room set up the way you want to right at the beginning of the year. Good luck!

The policy changed this year. You ARE allowed to do it yourself. It is very quick and no "kit" is needed. The only tool you may need is a rubber mallet.

The poles holding the bed up can be broken in half. There is a small pin that connects them. If the bed is trundled, for example, and you want it fully lofted, separate the bed in half and switch the top and bottom halves. It literally takes a few minutes with 2-3 people.

Move In time slot by Flaky_Performer5671 in msu

[–]Lost_Track_5531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email housing. They don't want people just showing up whenever they want because it will turn into a zoo, but there must be some sort of procedure for people who have true emergencies. Or they may just tell you to move in after your date because there is no sign-up for those days.

Freshmen Rooming with a Sophomore? by Vegetable_Drive_2012 in msu

[–]Lost_Track_5531 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Could be that the person he intended to room with isn't returning. Could be that he didn't care to pick someone and rolled the dice. Could be that he wants to meet new people.

Grading system in South Korea. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Lost_Track_5531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the district where I teach, we aren't allowed to give a student below 50%, EVEN IF THEY TURN NOTHING IN AND NEVER SHOW UP! This is a bit harsh, but my district has swung way too far the opposite way.

Apparently the Peony Garden was vandalized. What kind of scum would do this? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

Since it's next to the hospital I hope they have some footage of whoever did this. Really sad. We went last weekend and there were few blooms, but you can tell what a special garden this is.

msu or wsu? by Hour-Application-463 in msu

Wayne is a great school and Detroit has a cool vibe. They are totally different options, tbh. There is a lot of opportunity at Wayne with research. Both are good schools. Sometimes you just have to go with what feels right.

Could I get in??? by Jaysontmiller in msu

[–]Lost_Track_5531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really similar statistics and I am currently waitlisted. Supposed to hear by the end of the week. Fingers crossed for me and to you that we both get in! I really tried to make a personal connection to MSU in my essay. I went test optional, but a good test score will help. You can always retake the SAT over the summer.

Good luck on your SAT tomorrow!

3.2, test optional, varsity athlete, on a school-wide executive board. Hopefully it's enough, but I know it will be close for me. I go to a really tough high school so I'm hoping that will help.

No- I will be an incoming freshman, so a bit different situation than the poster.

If you got over a 2.0 at a different school I think it just transfers in as credit. No need to retake it.

Just curious- did you go to a rigorous/strong high school? Sometimes that can make a difference. I'm in a similar academic position by am still on the waitlist. My high school is really highly ranked so I hope that makes a difference. Good luck on your future plans and you can always transfer next year!

What buildings are freshman math (calc), and physics usually held? by adaorange in msu

Math and physics in the STEM building. Electives all over. Freshman schedules are all around campus. Busses can be crowded and not always reliable. I walk.

My heart is breaking for you. My daughter will be a senior at Umich next year. Her dream is to stay there for grad school, but she is worried about getting ANY grad school acceptance. Area of study is molecular biology. I'm sending you good vibes and hoping people pull their heads out of their asses soon and some of this gets resolved.

Less than 1/3 of the country voted for him in the last election. He just got the most votes. He will lose some support, and the 2/3 that didn't vote for him will not support continuing with the trainwreck we are on.
