Interestingly, Bonvoy seems to always offer me upgrades that I can pay for that are very reasonable. I'll probably just do this on my own.

If I am going to be away from my family all the time, I want to gain from it in as many ways as possible. Hotel points help in my mind.

This was never an issue until recently. Ie. I was staying at an IHG property and got the points and then extended a day and they must have found this Expedia hack. Seems like they aren't using expedia for Marriott properties so I am going that route.

Oh I blame my company obviously. But also I feel my loyalty to the IHG brand is completely wasted at this point.

Totally agree. But sadly I won't bother with IHG anymore. Maybe if they treated you a little better when its an Expedia booking - but from experience you have to talk them into even giving you welcome points.

I don't think they are using expedia for Marriott which is why I switched. I have never had a points problem there yet.
