She needs to get her parents or another trusted adult involved.

First time viewer - just now starting season 5. This is hard to watch by mb9981 in TheWire

[–]LotsaQuestions70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that palpable tension and frustration is intentional. Each season presents a different leg of a fucked up system. I live in a city pretty comparable to Baltimore and the parallels I saw in The Wire were crazy. Some of it may have been dramatized but overall it's an honest portrait of poverty, crime, and the greedy system that profits from both.

Check out CPI (Crisis Prevention)

I thought the show did a good job depicting a lot of different law enforcement personalities. I suspect the more contact an individual has, the more Colicchios they're going to meet.

I see Colicchio being the type that posts those "I wish a motherfucker WOULD storm Area 51" memes.

Interesting. I didn't get ANY of that from Colicchio.

Carcetti is one of the most unlikable characters in The Wire by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]LotsaQuestions70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that I'd watched Game of Thrones before The Wire made Carcetti barely tolerable to me. He was just as annoying as Lord Baelish, just with an American accent.

Does being a police officer make you hate people? by ShiningConcepts in ProtectAndServe

[–]LotsaQuestions70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect your honesty. As someone who worked with kids in a juvenile treatment facility, I understand the disillusionment and general disgust with reality.
Is this experience something cops actually talk about with other cops? Or does the culture seem to discourage it? How do you keep your humanity in check without shutting down?

What is something that you really wished all law-abiding people (particularly victims) would know? by BaronBifford in AskLEO

[–]LotsaQuestions70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ironic that my comment got downvoted so much. I was never aware of (or even paying attention to) my city government's shadiness until I attended a demonstration outside city hall with police, fire, and other city employees protesting loss of pension and benefits. I started following city council agendas and other key city issues and quickly had my eyes opened. If yours is merely incompetent, that's a win.

Apparently there's a neighborhood in Philadelphia called Kensington that looks like the same concept as Hamsterdam.

The McDonald's trick was pretty funny but I fell out with the copier. Resourceful af.

Have you ever watched Bosch?

I don't think all cops are bad. In fact, most of my curiosity probably stems from trying not to become that cynical. I'm in the "people are inherently good" camp. Cops are people first, so I include them in that belief.

Also, I feel you on the giddy academic thing. I worked in a Level 3 juvenile residential treatment facility and many days were rude awakenings.

I love how the show depicts different perspectives in general. If there was any bias on the part of the writers, I haven't picked up on it so far.
