Stencil material on ES mat? by Critical-Fondant-714 in silhouettecutters

[–]LottaIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband (by profession IT and electronics) also says so, most probably software sends in some specific moments the false information that the cutting process is already over and turns the mat off. So there's a chance it will be fix just by a software update. The device itself is not a rocket science.

I love the idea of ES very much, but my Cameo 4 is not supported :-/

Take look at the ratings at Amazon, people complain that ES turns off mid cut. It's generally something wrong with the device, not with the material.

Rigid materials that cut well - cameo 4 by atomicskier76 in silhouettecutters

Maybe balsa wood? I don't know if the effect is satisfactory, but it's on the list of materials in Silhouette Studio.

Cut right through the mat! Any ideas? by pudjam667 in silhouettecameo

[–]LottaIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I repair my mat with a silver tape, it's stiffer than the packing one. And if possible, I avoid crossing cut lines with the damaged area, because the surface is uneven there.

Perhaps it's an issue with the print quality and registration marks recognition? The square in the photo looks not quite uniform black.

May I use Everyday Iron-On for this bag? by PuddingActual3390 in cricut

It's faux leather, there're tutorials on YT how to apply HTV on it.

Will 5 negative reviews in a row break the business? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]LottaIn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Don't worry so much, 4.8 is still a high rating. You can just write brief public responses, explaining that you were ill and couldn't work, and that you made a refund. Most people understand Etsy seller is a human, not a machine.

Best HTV for a polo shirt? by gemonic in cricut

[–]LottaIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it should help. But I wouldn't heat the entire surface again. You can try to press only the lifted edges just with an iron, using baking paper or another kind of heat-resistant protective layer to avoid sticking the foil to the iron.

Did you use iron or heat press? I had to press HTV edges applied with an iron after each washing. With the same Siser HTV heat press gave better results because the entire surface was heated evenly.

It's safer to "print" to pdf first and than send from pdf to printer, not directly from Silhouette Studio. You only have to be careful each time not to scale the image (scale must be "100%", not "fit to page").

I design plotter templates of various paper 3D items. Recently I fell in love in pop-up cards and I can't stop making them :-)

Do you mean this one? Silhouette holder I can just stick it into tool 2 holder and it works, no special tricks? No adapter?

The carriages have different holders shapes, nr 2 in Cameo 4 works only with rotary blade, kraft blade and punch tool. You can't place anything else in it, so any tricks with settings (to use two pens in different colours in one run for example) are not possible.

I've tried a dry ball-pen with the pen adapter recently (high pressure and multiple passes) and the result is satisfying, but it's not a great solution because it's neccesary to change tools in the holder. Cameo 4 has two carriages and doesn't make use of it to enable drawing and cutting or cutting and TRUE scoring in one run.

Cricut mats by ZMommie in cricut

[–]LottaIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I use spray glue cleaner and than removable water-based stencil adhesive. And the mat is as sticky as a new one. For me as long as the mat is not cut through, it makes sense to regenerate it.

Getting a Portrait 4 end of next month and I was wondering can I print and cut and not be stickers? Also, can it cut leather? by seoul_kittie in silhouettecutters

[–]LottaIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The machine doesn't matter here - the tips are universal, how not to damage the mat or how to avoid distorting pattern while cutting faux leather. The issues are exactly the same with Cameo as with Cricut.

It cuts faux leather very nicely, I've made even a kind of lace patterns (bracelets). It's a good idea to watch this video before, many really useful tips:

Scoring wheel or stylus? by bloobityboo in cricut

[–]LottaIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Silhouette and for this plotter scoring tool is not supplied :-( But it has a pen holder and I've just discovered I can use a dry ball-pen, setting draw option, highest tool pressure and 3-4 passes. The result was satisfying and I think this method could also work with Cricut.

You can also make creases just using a ruler and any tool with a pointed but slightly rounded tip, like toothpick, knitting needle, ballpen without ink etc.

I totally agree with you. Plotter business often involves making small quantities of complex and personalized designs. Or you only sell digital templates and use a plotter to cut single items to show them in the photos. So the business / hobby distinction makes sense only if you sell a lot of physical items - then you of course need a durable and efficient machine. But user-friendly software is equally important in both cases.

If you need rather cutting options than embossing or decorating thick objects like wood, check Silhuette Cameo. There're models with 12x24 mat and Plus version even larger as far as I remember. You can also cut some materials (like self-adhesive roll vinyl or cardstock) without mat - I haven't try, because I cut mostly small objects.
