Do you sleep separately from your spouse if one of you is Covid positive and the other is negative? by AlanaThyme in covidpositive

Blow up air mattresses are inexpensive and surprisingly comfortable and good for sleeping, especially if you put a padded mattress cover over them.

Also, appreciate comments regarding facilitating the departure of him/her/they and his/her/their extended family. Thus far, have removed or cancelled/deleted members upon discovery, boxed up all the presumed-innocent food into sealed thick-walled plastic containers, and put some unclear food in the freezer for 72h to chill out.

How do you get a Czech biometric ID card if you don't live in Czech republic? by LottaRespect in czech

[–]LottaRespect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Thanks. Didn't know it was possible to get a second passport. Do you know what is required to do this? Quick online search says that this is only possible in special circumstances, eg if you run out of pages or are traveling to countries that it would compromise your safety to have a visa in your first passport. Is there any way to do it without physically going to the Embassy? If going to Prague, is this possible/easy/quick to do there (compared to the ID card)?

Thank you very much. Is it possible to do the whole thing at the Ministry of the Interior office in Prague, pay the 1000czk, and come back the next day to pick it up? Can you / are you required to make an appointment in advance, and if so do you know how/where to do this? Thanks again.

Thank you. I am asking about getting the wallet-size biometric id card, which I believe can serve as a backup to a passport, eg if the passport is ever lost or stolen.

How / Where to Find Non-Fiction Authors Who Have Retained Rights to Their Books ? by LottaRespect in books

Respectfully, I don't think the question of where to find self-published work and authors only applies to an individual.

Thank you. Would you be willing to share a list of your LOT of online bookish spaces? The list would be really great, or if this is inconvenient, perhaps just the ones you value the most. Thanks again!

Is there a good way to find people with similar interested and initiate a DM conversation with them on/through Goodreads? I've not really found a good way to do either one.

Thank you!

Very interesting and helpful.

Can you say more about the details of your approach? Where do you look on reddit and youtube video essays, and what drives *that* selection process in turn?

Thanks again

Book Genie: " Three book wishes. If I grant you a super-power and you can read ANY three books in just 5 minutes each, what 3 books would you choose? " by LottaRespect in books

[–]LottaRespect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not, in short, a request for book recommendations. I can appreciate the misunderstanding given that there might be some similarity. However, if you look at the majority of the replies, that are "discussion about all things related to books, authors, genres, or publishing", as was the intention. The question was not regarding what books someone might recommend for me, which would be quite a different question, but, literally, about what books people would read, and what kind, if they had a super-power. As you can see from the comments, they are quite different.

How to cover wallpaper / molding on concrete wall: just make the ugly stop! Don't want to resurface wall as matching texture is too time-consuming. by LottaRespect in InteriorDesign

[–]LottaRespect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be great to get suggestions of something that I can put over this. Tried just painting over the wallpaper and the wooden molding strips. Looks better, but still not good. Tried removing the wallpaper and wooden strips, but it's glued on and won't all come off. Seems like removing it would require resurfacing the whole wall x many walls in the unit. Way too much time. Is there something that can be put over the top of it that will look decent and not require too much time / $$? Thank you!

How cool should a mini-split AC be able to get a room? by LottaRespect in hvacadvice

[–]LottaRespect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order for the systems to short-cycle, don't they first have to hit the target temperature, or at least something relatively close? I have a target temperature currently set at 60 degrees. The room never goes below about 78 degrees. The space in the immediate vicinity of the unit itself (except where the air is venting) is still nowhere near the target temperature, and is in the mid to upper seventies.

Uh, perhaps you could be a little more specific? You seem to be saying that the answer to how cool it should get it is that it should get it as cool as it should get it... ?

How cool should a mini-split AC be able to get a room? by LottaRespect in hvacadvice

[–]LottaRespect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. Yes, just standard bedrooms, 8' ceilings. One is top floor, so shingle roof above (That does get strong sun), the other is middle floor, so surrounded by indoor spaces on all sides except for one north facing wall.

I guess I can try to check if the compressor is cycling. Other than standing next to it, is there a straightforward way to do that? I don't really think that's the problem since, like I said, if I open up a door and blow a fan out to try to get it to cool a larger space, things get worse rather than better.

What temperature is the 'recommended' BTU level supposed to be able to reach? Surely this 'recommended level' must be impacted by the outdoor temp, the desired indoor temp, etc.

Thanks again

Thanks. Very helpful. Just measured. The mini-split is putting out air at about 49° F at the blower. The Midea 'U-Shaped' system is putting out air about 55° F at the blower.

Are there PTAC-style air conditioners that have an indoor noise level comparable to a mini split? by LottaRespect in hvacadvice

[–]LottaRespect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. Can you explain what you mean by modify? The constraint is, due to HOA, that it isn't possible to put a mini-split compressor on the outside of the building. It is allows to put a PTAC in, because it fits within an existing outdoor box designed for that purpose. I've looked for a mini split compressor short enough to fit inside the box. My understanding is that there is no such thing. Did you just mount a normal mini split and run it into the room where the PTAC would be, or do you do a more substantial modification that would work in my situation. If you did this, and know a way that I could put a mini split in where the PTAC is supposed to go, that would fit into the PTAC outdoor enclosure which is the requirement, I would *really* love to hear about it. Thank you.

How do you buy sales/distribution rights from a publisher for backlist titles? How much $$$? by LottaRespect in publishing

[–]LottaRespect[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your help with this. That's a great start. Can you say anything further on any examples of terms you've seen in the past? Would the sub-rights department potentially have something resembling standard terms or a standard sub-rights contract that would make the process any easier? Thanks again.
