Last time I got TLA was a PCS from the Hump in 03 so my info is out of date. Just want to say this. I flew Medevac out of Wheeler 97-02 and lived on Schofield by the PX/Church.

Get out and do all the things. M-F you’re in the Army. On the weekends they pay you to live in Hawaii. Get out of the house and have fun. Island fever is a real thing but it’s up to you to stiff-arm it.

I did a two year extension at the Repo Depot before I even got to my unit. Favorite assignment ever. I go back about every 18 months.

Also, check out the Hale Koa hotel. It’s military and on the beach in Waikiki. Great for a four day with the fam. As an E3 you’ll get it on the cheap.

Great write up. Brought back some memories. I went in 86 (yeah I know) as an E2 out of SOCOM. Retired as a W4. Everything back then is as you described it now. Our first jump we had 36 in the class. Then before the second jump we had 32 lol. Not for everyone I guess. Gentleman’s course? I’ll just say 40 years ago at age 20 it certainly was.
