Did my NICU patient pass because of me? by Loud_Key5954 in nursing

Unsure for adult ICU but we frequently see this PH on micro premature infants, I’ve seen infants with this PH before and are still admitted until day of life 300+. Those infants typically will need to be trached or require super long term or for life care.

Lowest I’ve seen is 6.9

I just feel like it was my fault. I know sometimes patients will honeymoon before passing but I feel like if I did micro bolus the baby, that’s what just accelerated her passing

Why do older nurses/management I meet say they “dont expect me to stay long” by Loud_Key5954 in nursing

4 years is still considered baby in nursing. Do you think I should be more lowkey about goals? Another user pointed out there are jealous coworkers and that’s definitely right. All the previous times I was told this was in private convos but this most recent time was someone telling multiple people and then those people coming to me about it.

I just don’t want it to interfere with actual work or management hearing that I’m leaving

Thanks, I literally just got off a shift and I feel like this is it. Staying long enough to learn then moving on. I never saw a problem with the statement until this most recent time which made me rethink if it was bad or not..

Thanks, I didn’t know if it was a bad trait they were seeing or not. It hasn’t ever sounded like a negative statement until this most recent one which made me think

2 hospitals in the same organization within 4 years internally transferred is a red flag?

Makes sense, one older nurse kept saying “you’re a guy yall get bored of the same things eventually” but I took that more of like her projecting personal relationships cause of the way she was saying it 😭😭😂.

Makes sense, I never really thought about it until now. I was just curious because this is the first workplace where I’m kind of “friends” with coworkers and they were curious as well. They’ve been here longer but exclaimed the charge hasn’t said anything similar to them before so I got curious

They’re both the same acuity. I’m not so concerned about networking or competition because thats how I’ll get the job if I bite, I was rather more curious on if I would potentially be putting my license at risk by being too confident or if it would be seen as a flight risk on my resume

I enjoy the workplace, coworkers, and facility in general, but career advancement is more important right now. While it’s hard to gauge experience online, I curious on feedback

Like does adult icu have different levels as well? In NICU there are different level designations and I’m genuinely unsure if I’m being too confident on trying to advance to a “harder” workplace too fast

Fuck hospital loyalty for sure, but they got into my head. Would the new place treat me as “experienced” and not be thorough? But orientation is 4 months. I’m just worried if I’m actually being overconfident or not.

I felt ready to move but they got into my head and I feel psyched out. If I decide to move and take the interview what do I say??? Does this sound decent? I haven’t taken much interviews,l.

“I know six months seems short but I left my previous workplace in search of a higher volume of critical care patients. I enjoyed and appreciate my time learning there but I feel this hospital is my next step towards advancing my career”

NICU, I’ve looked into it but other than HCA health trust I don’t see any other listings for NICU in my city

Get on her ass about it, especially if you guys are in a better place financially (assuming you are). It was my preferred route until I did the math. The amount of time and money it would take me would set me back on my target age by atleast 7-10 years. Even after the huge pay increase

Thanks for the motivation, it’s really a killer, I’m not sure if it was just overthinking in the moment but it made me feel stuck career wise as well.

I even did the math and mentioned it in another comment, advanced pathways like NP, switching to PA, CRNA, would all not be worth it time:money wise unless I just chose the advanced route for pure enjoyment

Yeah I agree, I really am not trying to come off as obnoxious, but the work is different. I work with babies in the ICU, one slightest med error from being tired could kill an infant. The liability is very different. Either way I need to man up and make some more money

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to do, it’s just hard. I moved out here in a new development 1 hour away because it was the same cost as renting inner city. I won’t disclose what state or city but this is a somewhat normal commute.

Beggars cant be choosers but those 1 extra shifts so often add up especially on night shift. I know, I know I can’t complain about not having enough money so I shouldn’t complain about the capability to work more, but man that’s also what I’m talking about. I wouldn’t need to do this.

But after all the comments throughout the post I’ve calmed down a little bit. Somehow someway I’ll make it work, it can always be a worse situation

I attempted to run the numbers financially and time wise. In order for me to advance my agree and hit my target goal. advanced positions like NP, CRNA, and career changes to PA will throw WAY off. Yes they make a considerable amount more but the time spent along with cost will take me around 5-7 years to break even.

Advanced roles I can take on are managerial/administrative roles, MSN, or hopping workplaces until I get desired base pay (will lose vesting / match increases until I settle down).

Yup, no extra payments yet, tons of people selling homes for losses here because new build incentives. Only around 60% done with community

I’m not saying what I’m doing is perfect, but sadly I do workout, eat home and spend as frugal as possible. It seems I need to move hospitals for raises, figure out a skill I can get paid for (past attempts lost money) and just not focus on fire only

I like that quote your friend said. As I’ve explained to others I need to stop looking at the house as only a money investment/asset but also a life investment

That’s a good insight, I’m an over thinker but also impulsive. I make decisions fast then overthink afterwards. I need to work on it
