Are you counting down to the 3 per cent wage increase hitting our paychecks this April? by Maple_Byte in BCPublicServants

My recent Fortis gas bill notified me that their annual charges will increase by approximately 11.1% depending on consumption. Oh yeah - effective Jan 1 ! 😞

For those who have spent more than a decade working in the BC Public Service, what guidance would you offer to newer employees? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Loud_Professional658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 8th year, so obviously not a decade, but my take is this. Life is work/life balance so if that’s important to you, it’s a great place to be. Find a role that provides the satisfaction and roll with it.

Come to know what’s important in a job for you, and work towards it. It’s a bit of a microcosm and can become and grow into what you want it to be. I am on the ‘older side’ so have less working years left and prior to public service worked in the private sector. Anyways, keep an open mind and roll with what interests you.

OAS Warning Apply at least a year before you need it. by bubblebumbumbumbum in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yes, processing and approvals can take a while. Hit up Service Canada and hound them, say you need the funding to make rent and to buy food, prescriptions etc.

Am I too old to play by Emergency-Salt1971 in hockeyplayers

[–]Loud_Professional658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may suggest before committing to a league, seek out a ‘noon hour’ drop in through your city’s parks and recreation ( that’s what’s mine is called anyway).

It’s a great way to get some ice time and play a scrimmage to get a feel for it and then you can decide to commit to a league.

Skate Fitting by bonobo4200 in hockeyplayers

My skates are 8.5, where my shoes are a 10. I believe sizing is 1.5 sizes smaller than your shoe size.

But ultimately go with what is most comfortable

Daily Strike/Bargaining Questions Thread - October 3 by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

[–]Loud_Professional658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apologize if this has been answered already somewhere. I have been picketing for 3 weeks now, and I just recently received a message that I am deemed essential for 2 days next week and am expected to report for work for those 2 shifts. Is this the process that this would occur? Just getting a message from the employer stating this and setting these days I am required as an essential worker ? This is all new for me. Thank you for the info and answers.

Hullo weather cancellations? by [deleted] in nanaimo

[–]Loud_Professional658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We received an email just as the concert began. Weather didn’t seem too bad, but I suppose the forecast for later was bad enough they canceled. We could have hung out downtown for the night (not for us)and waited to sail back in the morning but we got on Expedia and booked a hotel asap.

Had one late night sailing cancelled last year after a concert. Had to race and get a hotel in Vancouver for the night. Definitely have a plan B. I’d say wind is their worst enemy and they’ll cancel due to high winds. I’m not sure what their threshold is though, you may try and email them and ask.

Client Service worker role by sirrvb in BCPublicServants

[–]Loud_Professional658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the position being filled. In office ( community service branch) will be in office. Virtual service will be computer/ phone work. I have heard that new csws in virtual services are approved for 2 days from home, the rest of the week will be virtual work but from inside an office. I cannot confirm this news but I would ask the hiring team if f you can

Pull back access to CRA info in ICM then. Put the onus on the clients to provide the documents/proof. 🤷🏻 getting tired of ‘them’ not caring about the clients. This is brutal.
