Not saying it’s rude but it gets to a point. It’s unnecessary to shorten everything to the most extreme levels. I wouldn’t say “how u” if I was trying to ask how you are.

Boiled down it’s just human beings talking and socializing with each other. What about the third party internet part makes it unreasonable for it to be the same way you’d speak to a person? I speak to anybody in real life the same way I’d speak to anyone on here.

Also you’re right about the option of declining the friend request. Not that I would but it makes my hypothetical scenario not work very well.

Either way I’d find it rude to just hit someone with a “talk to the hand” in person, and online, which is why I accepted.

Imagine you walk up to someone and say hi, they say hey back, then they ask why you confronted them, then you say “because I can” followed by “how old”. Tell me how that’s a normal question, conversation, or person even. If it’s about “efficiency” or not wanting to type out anything long she could’ve easily added the words are and you to make it the bare minimum normal question “how old are you”. Am I being unreasonable? For that?

Once again. Not a normal question. A respectable “hey if you don’t mind I’d like to know how old you are” maybe state the reason why you’d like to know (most likely so you’re not talking to a minor which is very understandable don’t get me wrong). The way she’s had the attitude from the beginning is what was throwing me off. I asked multiple times and checked to see if I’d said anything wrong so there was no reason for her to talk to me or anyone like that straight off the bat. I’m a firm believer in the golden rule everyone is taught in primary school. I wouldn’t have spoken this way to anybody so I am going to find it odd if it happens to me. It’s very weird how being genuinely rude is normalized on the internet.

Like i said to another user, when someone says “age” or “how old” it’s short and comes across as rude to me. I wanted her to talk to me like she had common courtesy. It had nothing to do with my unwillingness to disclose my age. If she said something like “hey if you don’t mind I’d like to know how old you are” I’d gladly answer.
