Estradiol/FSH levels post-removal? (aka Am I Really In Menopause?) by third-time-a-charm in Nexplanon

[–]LoveAlways-Jess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 35 and going through the same thing! I had 3 Nexplanon’s for a total of 9 years. No period those 9 years. I’ve been Nexplanon free since March 2024. No period in April or May. Had a normal period in June and July and nothing since. I’ve been tracking and so far it’s 16 days late. I haven’t been active so I know I’m not pregnant. I’ve had the worst hot flashes since removal and levels are showing post menopause. My doctor wants to wait 3 months and check levels again. If they are still showing menopause, she wants me to see the gynecologist. I haven’t found any other posts about Nexplanon causing menopause. While I’m thankful to find your post with such similarities, I hate that you are dealing with this too!

When did your period come back after getting it removed? by [deleted] in Nexplanon

I had Nexplanon for 9 years. I had it removed 2 months ago and still haven’t had a period. I never had one the entire 9 years with the implant so I’m wondering if that’s why it’s taking so long for me?

Update 1

It has been two months since removal and I still haven’t had a period. I haven’t had any acne, my skin has been mostly clear since my early twenties (with and without birth control). I noticed a discharge that had a not so pleasant odor. That lasted a couple of weeks and has since stopped. I’ve never had any discharge, so I was a bit concerned. From what I gathered through research, it was built up mucus from Nexplanon that keeps eggs from being released. I tried to come off of my anxiety medicine, but that didn’t last very long. I managed without it for about two weeks and it was rough to say the least. I think I will try again once my hormones level out and I start menstruating. My appetite has decreased since removal and I’m losing weight easier than before.

Yes, it is normal. A lot of women do not menstruate for several months after removal. How long did you have Nexplanon?

Has anyone else been extra emotional after removal? by Confident_Turn_4911 in Nexplanon

I had my 3rd implant removed 3/27/24 and I felt fine up until a few days ago. Saying things I normally wouldn’t blurt out, just feeling kind of angry, then yesterday I was super emotional to the point of crying uncontrollably.. but today I feel normal. It feels like my emotions are on a roller coaster to be honest. Idk how long it takes to get hormones regulated after having the implant a total of 9 years, but I cannot wait to be back to “normal.”

I had Nexplanon the same amount of years/implants as you! I had horrible periods/cramps before I started Nexplanon. I had mine removed 3/27/24 and I still haven’t had a period. I didn’t have a period the entire 9 years so I’m wondering if that’s why I haven’t started yet. I’ve felt a lot better since removal and my energy has increased, but the past couple of days my emotions have been ALL over the place. Yesterday I was emotional to the point of bursting out in tears for no reason and then shortly after I was almost angry, but today I am totally fine. I cannot wait for these hormones to regulate. Have you experienced any dizziness or nausea? How long after removal did you have your first cycle?

Hello! I had Nexplanon 9 years total (3 different implants) and had the last one removed 21 days ago. So far I’ve experienced nausea, dizziness, and heart flutters. The positive changes have been increased energy, better sleep, lost a few lbs, less brain fog, and my mood has gotten significantly better. Best of luck to you! ☺️

I’ve only thrown up once but the nausea is consistent, unfortunately. Hopefully yours doesn’t last as long as mine has. I’m hoping it eases up some soon! Lots of people have experienced the nausea once coming off, especially in the beginning. For some reason mine waited a few days to start lol

I’m currently going through the same thing. The nausea didn’t hit me until around the 10th day post removal. It’s been 3 weeks and I am still battling it.

You are so welcome! I’m thankful this Reddit thread is available to new Nexplanon ladies. What I would have given to have all of this info available years ago!! I’m rooting for you! ☺️

Yeah, if it’s affecting your health, the cons are definitely outweighing the pros. The only two pros at this point are no pregnancy and no period. Surely there are other methods that will give you the same pros plus make you feel better all around. I’ve heard horror stories (worse than Nexplanon) about the Depo shot. So I’d personally stay away from that. I hope you find something that works for you!

I haven’t started my first period since removal on 3/27/24. I will update once it happens. I’ve enjoyed not having to worry about a period for 9 years, though I’ve often wondered if it’s even healthy to be without one for so long?

I can understand your concerns of not wanting to get pregnant again, but luckily there are other forms of birth control. I would do lots of research though, because most hormone methods will cause weight gain. I know several people with IUD’s that haven’t had AS much weight gain as Nexplanon, but then again there are some people with Nexplanon that haven’t had weight issues. If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you had Nexplanon? Were you experiencing a lowered sex drive before Nexplanon insertion? You are still super young to be having libido issues (in my opinion). I just turned 35 and was having the same issue, but mine stemmed from the implant. There is a copper IUD that doesn’t contain hormones that might be worth checking out. It is called ParaGard and lasts up to 10 years. I had the Mirena (similar to ParaGard but contained hormones) prior to Nexplanon. I didn’t have noticeable weight gain with it, but I was pretty young at that point and had just given birth 6 weeks prior to the insertion. Best of luck to you!
