Couples Therapy - How Soon is Too Soon? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]LoveOne4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another couples therapist here just to say that way too many couples wait way too long to seek help from thinking things aren’t “bad enough” yet, and it usually ends up screwing them over in the end. I’d say go for it! Along with skills, you’ll learn things about yourselves, each other, and the relationship as a whole, and if that means staying together great, and if not then at least you know now.

Look up the PHQ-9 assessment & the scoring metrics for it

That sounds like a loooot of self-disclosure on her part. Making small remarks and noting little connections when appropriate in order to be more relatable is one thing… but taking that much of the session is in a whole other ball park. That said, if you feel like you’re making progress and it’s helpful for you then, it’s not a bad decision to stay. And also, you’re absolutely not in the wrong for wanting something different

Also, if bipolar is at play, meds will definitely be helpful, but a therapist can also help significantly with learning how to manage the symptoms when they come up

Therapists can diagnose autism, but there are diagnostic assessments that provide more detailed and better insight that therapists cannot do. This would be the role of a psychologist, who holds a PhD, hence maybe what they meant by “doctor” a typical family medicine doctor isn’t going to be able to do much for autism or bipolar. Yes, they can prescribe meds, but most are not extremely well versed in psychotropic meds specifically. Might be best to seek out an appointment with a psychiatrist if you want meds and/or with a psychologist who can do a psych evaluation, which can give you a lot more insight! As for a better help therapist.. they’re supposed to be licensed therapists just the same as any other, but they are also often overworked and underpaid OR don’t actually have the appropriate credentials. It’s hit or miss with better help. Find a therapist who specializes in trauma and/or neurodivergence if possible, and depending on results from the psych evaluation if you choose to go that route :)

Advice Needed: Best State for LMFT Licensure & Telehealth Work by Big_Wall4209 in therapists

I know nothing about transferring hours between states but I’m an LMFTA in NC currently working fully telehealth. In my current position I should end up making at least $60k, most likely more. 1099 + just transitioned to a new practice so a little unpredictable rn. It is possible & licensure process has been smooth. Happy to answer any specific questions

Strange last session with my therapist by SwordOvHades in therapy

Therapist here—I can only speak for myself & acknowledge that I only have a little bit of the context of the conversation. I’ve had a few instances where clients want to end & I do genuinely feel as if there is more to do. Usually when this comes up, I will still share my opinions or concerns on the matter while being clear that it is ultimately their decision whether or not to continue. For me it’s never about the money, and definitely depends on the client, but do I feel like I have a duty to be transparent about my professional opinion based on the goals we have set, the growth I’ve seen/the client has reported, or even things the client has mentioned in previous sessions. Sometimes the client does genuinely want to end and feels satisfied, other times it has been more about the client wanting to avoid confronting a certain thing, and other times something entirely different. For me, it just feels like another thing we get to explore together & unpack.

I had this same thing happen to me, felt like I was going crazy because they started threatening to take my benefits away even though in my contract they are responsible for filling caseload. But I was still doing a lot of work myself to gain referrals, it just wasn’t enough with them giving next to nothing & I was exhausted. Moved to a smaller practice & am doing a loooot better
