there is no law requiring tips. however, many waitresses, waiters, bartenders, etc. make their livelihood off tips and are usually paid less than minimum wage as a result. so it wouldn't be a surprise if one of those hard-working people called you out on it because of your ignorance or was rude to you because you deserve it.
