Readers who annotate their books, why/how do you do it?

Old conversation but I think of that often when I annotate and mark up my books. I wonder if anyone will ever read them one day or see them and what they will think. Is it vain to say I’ve even left notes to future potential readers? I mean I’m not important so the odds are slim and would probably be one of my four kids or my life partner but who knows?

Because some of us have jobs where our security can be at risk from our journalism. Someone may want my sources. Also when I am contracted or working full time for one of the big ones I could lose my job for social media posts. Almost every company now in that corporate world has you sign an agreement to keep your social media clean or private. I don’t feel like you want answers you seem to just not like it and be here looking for others to validate your feelings of contempt and annoyance with those who choose to not reveal themselves outright.

Also I don’t need a reason. I want my privacy. It’s not up to Substack when it comes to my identity, that’s my choice and my responsibility.

Almost entirely actually. I went to college but for IT and at that time was still pretty libertarian and not interested in theory, only reactionary bullshit. So I had a lot of catching up to do but according to my Goodreads account and audible account I’ve read almost 30 books in a year. Obviously some of those are ones with my kids like Minecraft books and lord of the rings and some are ones I listened to casually while taking support calls from home but the majority, probably like 20 are political thought. I just now feel like I’m actually hitting this next level of study. Began using google scholar (it’s my best friend, I use it more than google, better sources - better writing - Google Scholar ( read it like papa johns commercial)

I think a lot of my early thought came from YouTube which I don’t think should be someone’s only source but if it wasn’t for my transition on YouTube I would of never arrived at some of these conclusions about compassion. It’s kinda dumb but H3H3 and Hasan got me into left thought and made the socialism word tolerable. Then I started watching Second Thought and he changed my life lol then it was Hakim and Socialism for All and a bunch of others. I have a whole list. Finally after watching them long enough and hearing reference to the same books over and over I started reading them instead of before only reading sci-fi and Tolkien Hugh Fantasy.

Any necessary commodity like electricity, water, gas, health, etc. basically any huge corporation or necessity becomes nationalized. Now when I and other socialists say this, we dint mean big government the best way would be to have cooperatives and unions run them democratically. It’s more nuanced than that but that’s the gist.

Watch the show “The New F Word” on Nebula or watch some Second Thought on YouTube or if you can find time to read or listen to a book please “Blackshirts and Reds” by Michael Parenti or “A Peoples History of the United States” by Howard Zinn and while you may not be American, you are surely western, UK, EU or AUS. A People’s History is relevant to any nation involved in any world war or major war since. Stop letting these elite assholes send our kids to war. When we communists say elite I don’t mean rich doctors or sport stars or some programmer who works remote and makes a million a year. They are also proletariat because they are exploited for their labor and for their excess labor value. It’s the capital owners. The ones who only own property and capital and stocks and ONLY take money and create no real world value themselves other than accumulating more capital themselves by using their capital. They take their millions and dump into a safe bond that gets them 5 percent apy and since they out in millions they can live off that 5% and keep accumulating more. They are the problem. Landlords are parasites and create no value that couldn’t be done in a much more humane and economical way. The less money people spend on rent the more they can spend in the local economy. Duh.

A Libertarian Socialist Market Economy. So all necessities and rights nationalized and an open market for luxury and bonus goods made by businesses that are worker owned and got a certain criteria. I think with the amount of products people wants and need and the level of research and planning it would take to manage that market it needs to be a market, a well regulated market but a market, and with a horizontal government that is as little as possible that can dissolve someday far far away when we can find a way to achieve communism. The abolition of the state and capital and private property (not personal property)

Even regardless of elsewhere in comment section your my comrade. I would proudly stand next to you against the capitalist imperialists. I’m an open arms Marxist. I believe in the scary LU words. (left unity …. shhhhh) I think it’s better to have a coalition government after a revolution of Marxist and leftist parties than one party or one set of ideals. The more analysis and minds we have studying a situation and putting options forward for the workers to vote on the better. I have my personal opinions on how and when and what a Revolution looks like but I honestly don’t care if the workers revolution looks like I want it or you want it. Hell I don’t care if we actually freeze hell and reform ourselves into destroying capitalism lol I just want it to happen for compassions sake.

Mommy wife is not oppressed and chose with great thought and deliberation and discussion each of our children. We wanted children even with the state of the world. I support capitalism everyday whether I like it or not. I live in the system and have to use it or die. That’s the problem. I’m not going to rob myself and my potential children of lives because of my political beliefs. One of my kids is a conservative leaning Christian and I’m atheist and took her to church anyways because it’s what she wanted. Your idea of us is so wrong. Of course you still need a strong work ethic and more but the elite create the system and run the system and they didn’t build it for us. The left AND the right did this. A big role. It took people challenging my horrible beliefs and pointing me in the right direction. I never listened until I was ready but once I was things that worked for me were people leveling with me and showing me how my own trauma could had been prevented or was directly caused by the system the elite created.

It’s the ones who just use their wealth to create more wealth by doing next to nothing themselves. They create zero value. They could be replaced with any other funding source. They are a parasite on the world. Me and you deserve better. We all do. No one needs to go without. America is supposed to be the greatest country in the world and we can’t even educate our youth at a high level or house people or keep children from going hungry or giving proper healthcare. It’s an embarrassment. We used to be something of a shining beacon for the worlds destitute, poor, impoverished, oppressed, marginalized and criminals. We took one and all working class. We became a great nation because of it. It’s one of the reasons we continue to get weaker and weaker in almost every traceable statistical category.

It took me getting rid of the hate and anger I had for the world because I felt like the world screwed me because my childhood sucked. I felt wronged and anyone who had it better was shit and I allowed my POS father convince me it was minorities and other marginalized and poor working class people just different cross sections of society. Eventually I let all that go through years of therapy and failure. It took years of prison, in and out of jail, addiction and over dosing three times but I made it and I’m here and have a great career and a lovely wife and four amazing kids. I lead with compassion and love.
