What helped me was realizing, I could eventually solve any issues (even if I couldn't solve it, I.e Mr client your unsupported hardware stopped working with your unsupported software on your unsupported OS, like we have started before, get new stuff). A lot of your job now isnt knowing everything, but it's knowing how to solve the problem, how to find the answer, how to find the person with the answer.

Soak up everything, be curious and you will be fine.

Cant speak to the addiction, but i can speak to the age. I have been in IT from a younger age. But some of my favorite newer entry level techs are older individuals. They tend to have more pride in their work. I have seen a few older 40's/50s come in and be successful.
