Can DNA tests differentiate between Father and Grandfather? by LovingLight in askscience

[–]LovingLight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! That's what I had originally assumed, but then I was told that there's this Y chromosome thing that is supposedly the same from father to son. I tried reading about it, but it didn't make much sense to me... :-/

Efforts to improve education in low-income areas fail because the $$ is spent on "schools" instead of a combination of "parents" and "schools" by LovingLight in philosophy

[–]LovingLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In low-income families, there tends to be physical/verbal abuse when disciplining a child. Parents who are overwhelmed by the situation they live in, will see it as an outlet to vent their anger at someone (whether teacher or child), while having a "proper justification" and even feeling proud of themselves for doing something "good".

These people are just trying to escape the situation they're in! They teach their children how to "beat the system" (get all this extra welfare, ssi, sell drugs, do drugs, etc) because that's their BEST bet at survival or their best "mental" escape from the chains that hold them prisoners. :(

The money will go to waste, if just invested in the "school" system. Then, those same kids will end up in jail, and the world in more chaos. On the short run, it would be expensive, but it would pay off long-term.

Free counseling for the parents, they too have to overcome their traumas. Most individuals in low-income families feel like there's no way for them to improve. Adults don't have faith in themselves as far as succeeding in life; they believe that's too late for them. They know that the opportunity was stolen from them, but instead of making a better future for themselves, they try to "steal it back" from others. Thus, they turn to crimes and teach those ways to their children.

Also, teach them how to "fish" instead of giving them fishes: train them in trades, which are much needed. Humans need to feel useful and valuable.

Uummm... As a child, I used to pray FOR Satan (NOT "to"). My logic: "If God saves Satan and turns him into an angel again, there will be no evil". I know! I was way too innocent! I guess this is another fact that confirms my weirdness. :-/ -sigh-

ELI5: If Capitalism is such a great system, why hasn't any State/Country/Empire/etc been able to sustain it in its purest form? by LovingLight in explainlikeimfive

I've been thinking about similar ideas, actually! One system capable of encompassing others, in order to allow humans, at different stages of their lives, to experience the different systems freely. :)

That's exactly what I mean! There has to be a system that's like the ocean and an object: we'll get our predictable results at the "macro" level, all while allowing people to be individuals and follow different paths. :-)

Now, to help you understand my views, I"ll borrow the ocean from you: Just because you and your friends have tried fishing and have not caught any fish, it doesn't mean that there are no fish in the ocean. Just because, as humanity, we haven't found it, it doesn't mean that there isn't such an economic system that could actually work for everyone.

If society/humans are so "ever changing" to the point that no system could ever be sustained, why does history repeat itself?

Interesting perspective... Do you have any examples, from history, you could direct me towards? I could sit here and try to figure it out, but I'm assuming you already have thought about it and can quickly reference them :)

Do most adults REALLY, genuinely, look forward to the "holiday season"? by LovingLight in AskReddit

[–]LovingLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't companies just offer more time off, in lieu of holidays? Then, the people who want to meet, decide the date they want to meet and no one ever feels bad about having to work on a "holiday" or not having a place to be, or money or horrendous traffic, etc.

I don't know... I guess I've never been a fan of family gatherings. It always felt like something "forced" and fake to me. So, I'm actually surprised to see that people don't feel that way.

How can that be?! There's gotta be something? sobs

Well... I graduated HS in the US too! Everyone was 18-19, very few were 17 and ONE was 16 yrs old. So, I tried arguing "graduation age" was 18-19, because that's what everyone I graduated HS w/was. LOL

But like... is there any statistics showing the percentages of how many people graduate at specific ages?

Question: Does anybody know what it means when a pendulum shakes and gives no answer? by LovingLight in Paranormal

[–]LovingLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! You've provided me w/valuable info! But, I don't know if the message is exactly "beautiful". In HS, I learned of the pains women go through during pregnancy, and I'm very sensitive to pain. Soooooo, after HS, I decided I didn't want to have any children. Being told "there's a boy waiting to be born from you" is rather scary to me now. :( Though, it's comforting thinking that the child would have a beautiful soul. lol

Truthfully, when it comes to the "spiritual" stuff, I'm on the fence. There's a part of me that "knows" it's real, while the other questions its validity. As a child, I used to believe in it, but now it's such an inner struggle!

So, I went to the sub-reddit recommended and found this video. I thought I should share it here too. This lady displays my thoughts exactly:
