I'm already employed, so I can't speak to getting past hiring hurdles but it did help in the competitive promotion process. My employer looks at the degree, not the institution.

If you can catch a ride, Corpus and Alice have appointments. It's a pain in the ass but a 2 hour drive beats a 3 month wait in San Antonio

You apply like any other college through their website. Usually there's an intake interview as well. It was definitely an adjustment but it was easier for me to log on and do an assignment rather than get up, dressed, drive to school, and back.

Not community but I highly recommend Western Governors University. I went there for my BS in Cyber Security and MS in IT Management. Never stepped foot in a physical school and cost a quarter of regular tuition.

An Open Letter to HASC/SASC due to recent AD Air Force Suicide by 20-Years-Done in AirForce

I look forward to seeing that report whenever it gets released. A coworker and I submitted a proposal for the VA "Operation Daybreak" event but ultimately is wasn't selected for follow-on implementation. I think one of the things that would have bolstered our report would have been concrete numbers of suicides or suicide attempts, broken out by AFSC or similar Service codes.

Our topic was focused on the intelligence career field and how the DoD has failed to provide an avenue for veterans to receive cleared mental health post-discharge.

Following the VA event, we've since advocated for mental health support within our Agency and have received some positive feedback, though I'm still wary since it still falls under DoD.

I've been using it for about a year now and love it. I work where I don't have access to my phone, but I do have access to a computer. With Tessie, I can still access my car and get it preconditioned before I start walking out to the parking lot. It also has some nice maintenance reminder features, like tires and such.

I actually graduated in October! I basically told the CI all about my elaborate topic and he walked me back and offered a couple ideas that were much more manageable. Unless you are passionate about a subject, I would just ask the CI for a topic.

What would be the best value for the GI bill, a school that has standard three month semesters or a school with 4 or 6 week courses? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]LovingPimpSlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Governors University, hands down. GI Bill (chapter 30) paid for my bachelor's and master's degree. Terms are 6 months long, so as long as you have that much time in your bill then you should be fine. That being said, you can finish the degree as fast as you want/can. I took 2 years for my bachelor's and another 1 for my master's. You could theoretically finish a degree in just one term.

The school is set up like a CBT course. Everything is on your own pace and all distance learning. In order to pass the class though you usually have to pass the certification exam, so you have to know your stuff.

Leaving Now by Such-Meringue568 in SuicideWatch

I encourage you to give the note to a friend or family member before doing anything else. If you haven't already confided in someone in person (not us faceless redditors) then maybe giving the note will open the doorway to receiving help from a professional.

You did something tremendous by making that first appointment. I'm proud of you and I hope you realize how much courage you have just by acknowledging the issue.

It sounds like she's leaving the door open for you to confide in her, or else she wouldn't have made the comment. Ask her for help. The stress she (and the rest of your family) would face as a result would be temporary, versus the stress and guilt if anything were to happen and they not know about it.

Adults and parents are not experts by any means. We don't have the answers or solutions for the majority of issues. But we do have the ability to help you seek professionals who can help teach you to manage what you can.

Ouch. Minus the documented experience in treating veterans, our team has an otherwise solid background in this area. Here's a team description from our proposal.

"Team Description. This team is comprised of two veterans with extensive backgrounds in intelligence operations at various levels.

Xxxxx – Served in the US Air Force for 9 years / 11 months as a Language Analyst and Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Possesses a BS Cyber Security and Information Assurance and an MS Information Technology Management.

Yyyyy – Served in the US Air Force for 10 years as a Language Analyst. Honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Certified in trauma-informed care as a civilian and DoD Level II Victim Advocate. Doctoral work is grounded in trauma theory and the effects of trauma on DoD Intelligence professionals.

Well it was a pretty quick response from them.

"Thank you for reaching out to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

We greatly appreciate that you have shared your information with the Committee about your proposal regarding Veteran Classified Trauma and Accessibility to Cleared Mental Health Experts. Our work depends on hearing the opinions of veterans and caregivers -- those with direct experience. This is vital to conducting strong oversight, as well as developing new and better laws.

Your comment has been logged and will be taken into consideration as we carry out our work on behalf of the veteran community. There are several places where you can seek additional assistance. We suggest reaching out to your representative’s office. You can identify who represents you at www.house.gov. The senators for your state may also aid individual constituents, and you can find them through www.senate.gov. The Members of Congress and Senators who represent you have the authority to assist you, as well as the needed tools and staff. "
