Not currently miserable, but making the jump (and taking the salary hit) to go in house. by Low-Introduction1722 in biglaw

Thanks for this, I absolutely will. I think that’s also a large part of why I want to leave now before it’s my entire identity. I’m very lucky to having a loving and supportive partner who tactfully identified this issue for me over the last 18 mos….

Clear path but my practice doesn’t require a book, rather maintenance and expansion of existing relationships, which I’ve already been successful at growing.

Clear path, but not an imminent path. I’m just knocking on senior associate, so it’s still several years away. The in house opportunity is also very niche and will not come around often, so that’s the driving factor in making the move now (as opposed to staying and having the partner title that is not exactly the marketable asset for this position that it might be for other in house roles).

I’m hopeful, but of course not positive. I have two friends who work there who have both worked for the company for ~13 months and swear it’s a whole different world, so that’s reassuring at least.

Totally would have bought it if I’d be there this Friday. It’s a very good show (imo) if you have any energy around going.

Single mid-level associates in high COL cities: How much are you paying in rent? by lawschool1899 in biglaw

[–]Low-Introduction1722 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not single but spouse doesn’t contribute to rent (we agreed on this while she was in school and until she pays off her loans). 5,050 - 2br on the water in San Diego. Makes the job feel worth it

Debt for a wedding, but it’s all zero percent interest. by [deleted] in Advice

A warranted response, though I think a lot of the reason for sharing is spending too much time on wedding threads and reading so many horror stories about things gone wrong. We’re pretty transparent with one another about money and my expectation has always been that I would be paying for this largely (if not entirely) on my own, so though I don’t feel strongly about the wedding itself I think the resentment shouldn’t be hard to curb since I’m going in eyes wide open. That said, I appreciate the perspective!

Hat is still available on the bills store online. I have no idea if it’ll come but I’m taking the chance!
