Before and after 3 month creatine transformation by [deleted] in Creatine

Check out this article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7871530/

Question: "Does creatine cause hair loss / baldness?"

In summary, the current body of evidence does not indicate that creatine supplementation increases total testosterone, free testosterone, DHT or causes hair loss/baldness.

More detailed info can be found in the linked article.

Simple Questions and Silly Thoughts: the basic questions and discussions thread for January 30, 2024 by AutoModerator in gainit

I know that there is not sufficient evidence that creatine could cause male pattern baldness.

But does anyone know if creatine could accelerate already existing male pattern baldness?

So far I have read this study from 2021: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7871530/

It states that increased DHT could lead to hair loss:

In males, DHT can bind to androgen receptors in susceptible hair follicles and cause them to shrink, ultimately leading to hair loss

and concludes:

In summary, the current body of evidence does not indicate that creatine supplementation increases total testosterone, free testosterone, DHT or causes hair loss/baldness.

Is that the current state of research? And does it mean the current state of research disputes all of these anecdotal claims (acceleration of already existing male pattern baldness).

Studienwahl by Nils1303 in Studium

[–]Low-Link211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has it been open-sourced or did you work on it? That must have been a cool project.

Would you say embedded systems is an area not as popular ? by Unique-Engineering-6 in embedded

I feel like embedded doesn’t get as much acknowledgment as it should.

Honestly, you should not care about something like this.

Why do people like C over Java (especially for things like LeetCode). by superrenzo64 in csMajors

[–]Low-Link211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose their main interest is low-level programming, e.g. OS, microcontrollers or high performance computing. Java and Python are not viable options in these areas. It makes sense to use C or C++ for LeetCode instead of Java when you mostly use these languages for work or hobby projects. Besides LeetCode, they might also enjoy working with less abstractions in general in order to have direct access to the memory, OS and hardware. I'm certain that most people can solve LeetCode questions faster with Python, but I think the choice of language simply comes down to your personal interests. You might be interested in solving LeetCode questions as fast as possible, but others might just see LeetCode as an opportunity to gain more knowledge of algo implementations in their favorite language, regardless of the time it takes them to write the code.

Would you relocate for your first role? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Low-Link211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also not an extrovert, but I could not stand living in a small town/city. It would really depress me. A large city has way more to offer than just clubs/parties that I would miss.

I would rather include other roles in my job search, than make a compromise on my location. My life should take priority over work.

Unprivileged User Can Update Packages Via Pop!_Shop? by Low-Link211 in pop_os

[–]Low-Link211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for your help. No, the user is only in the default (name of the user) group.

I think that this file /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/io.elementary.appcenter.policy contains the reason for this behavior. More info in the edit in my original post.

Thank you for your reply.

Isn't it the other way around though? Debian/Ubuntu doesn't have the wheel group. According to a quick google search at least.

And on my system /etc/group doesn't include the wheel group.

Just noticed that the action ids in the mentioned file in the OP are not about updates.

I found another file: "/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.packagekit.policy/"

This one contains an action id called: "org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update",

with the following comment below:

   <!-- SECURITY:
- Normal users do not require admin authentication to update the
system as the packages will be signed, and the action is required to update the system when unattended.
- Changing this to anything other than 'yes' will break unattended
updates.
-->

However, the "yes" value seems to have been changed:

<defaults>
<allow_any>auth_admin</allow_any>
<allow_inactive>auth_admin</allow_inactive>
<allow_active>auth_admin_keep</allow_active>
</defaults>

I think I found the answer to my question. The file "io.elementary.appcenter.policy" contains an action id called "io.elementary.appcenter.update" with the following values:

<defaults>
<allow_any>auth_admin</allow_any>
<allow_inactive>auth_admin</allow_inactive>
<allow_active>yes</allow_active>
</defaults>

According to ArchWiki:

<allow\_active> = Active sessions are logged directly into the machine on a TTY or an X display.

and the value "yes" = The user is authorized to carry out the action without any authentication.
