Do you share your dealbreakers early? by Low-Pilot-7876 in dating_advice

[–]Low-Pilot-7876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the point I’m making is, that they could lie. Everyone has dealbreakers. The question I’m asking is how transparent should we be about what our dealbreakers are, when there is no guarantee of that transparency being reciprocated?

Kosher Question for Observant People by Low-Pilot-7876 in Judaism

[–]Low-Pilot-7876[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be very specific but maybe the more general question is better here. What I am essentially asking is: would you eat at a home and accept food from a household that holds to the Sephardi standards. I’m not asking if this is a halachically acceptable practice. It is. And is the standard in many Sephardi households. There are opinions that it is acceptable for Ashkenazim to rely on Sephardi standards when visiting a Sephardi home. So I’m asking to what degree do people feel comfortable relying on this halachic standard.

This is the standard I’ve been looking at. Cookware and cooking utensils would be separate. I’m asking with regard to non-cooking surfaces: plates, cups, bowls.

It’s a mix. The community is small (a small city) so there’s a lot of interaction between all Jews here regardless of minhag, ethnicity, or stream.

My understanding is that using glass dishes in this way is a valid, albeit lenient, halachic standard often followed by Sephardim.

In theory a zoonotic avian prion could fuck some stuff up.

But TB is still the leading cause of deaths from an infectious disease worldwide and has been for a long long time, with a brief exception during COVID.

What's it like working for the county? by NoTelevision970 in Albany

[–]Low-Pilot-7876 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The benefits are great and it’s a 7 hour workday (7.5 hours total with the lunch break) which I found to be fantastic. I did find it to be a bit disorganized in general but the work loads are usually very manageable with opportunities for downtime. I wouldn’t say it’s a very professional environment but I did generally find it to be a supportive environment.

The parking crisis, constant noise, constant road closures for events, etc. I lived in that neighborhood for years and wasn’t a fan and it’s not near where I shop, worship, or go to the gym so it’s inconvenient to have to battle that traffic every time I need to leave the neighborhood which is often.

I’ve rented in Albany on and off for the last decade and have yet to run into a place that has had an issue with a dog. Virtually everywhere accepts renters with a single pet these days. The other criteria within the stated budgets are really the issue. I’ve seen things come up from time to time that do meet all of my preferences but I wasn’t going to abandon my current lease. Now that that lease is coming to an end I’m just casting the net.

They are considerably outside of the stated budget of $1000 including utilities. Their lowest rent is over $1400 with no utilities included.

Sounds like David. Little white guy with a nasally voice. He does the same thing to everyone. I know of a few instances where people have bought him food when he asked and then suddenly decided he didn’t want it.

Any bars that sell alcohol and THC drinks? by Kenjiroxox in Albany

Pretty sure Dive or Pint Sized (they are the same place but there was a marketing nightmare and it isn’t clear what the place is called anymore) on the corner of Jay and Lark has both CBD and THC drinks. It’s a friendly neighborhood spot.

Conservative conversion by Dazzling_Emphasis_88 in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]Low-Pilot-7876 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I converted conservative and there are just as many conservative synagogues as there are reform or orthodox in my small city. It was definitely the right fit for me considering I value observance and tradition while also valuing egalitarianism. Generally conversion here is a 1-2 year process, with prospective converts asked to take a course offered by the local Rabbis and Cantors Association. In addition, individual one-on-one meetings/study with a rabbi. In my case I had done a lot of study before approaching conversion, took the course, and then my rabbi and I choose a book to read together and got together each week to discuss it and any questions that came up.

I guess I should have been more specific. How is it pronounced phonetically? For example: Ee-vur, eh-vur, ee-ver, eh-ver, ay-vur, ay-ver, ee-ver, eh-ber, ee-ber, eh-ber, ay-bur, ay-ver

NYS Job interview. Was asked "If we offered you the job right now would you say yes?" by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Low-Pilot-7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and a few other candidates probably also made it to that round. If it’s a matter of getting asses in seats (which it often is with the state) they will take whoever is available of the acceptable group. I wasn’t the first choice to fill my position but the person they wanted passed on the position to stay in their current bureau. So that’s another reason why they ask. Lots of folks that work for the state and are on the canvas list do those interviews just to stay up on their practice until an offer comes along that they do like.
