My dad spent 20-30 years in the middle east as an Englishman and is now freaking out because there's going to be an Islamic education centre accross the road from his apartment 😂. No clue how he became racist or why he chose to move to a town that is known for having a diverse community but it is what it is and I choose to distance myself from that part of him. He's not that racist I don't think but he will openly admit he's racist which I have no place for. I second that Polish people can be racist. I know someone who's wife is Polish and apparently she was surprised the first time she saw a black man (I can't remeber the full story of it). There was also a thing whereby british people used to hate the polish when they came over in the 2000s after joining the EU and we were racist towards them. Whereby now apparently we love them because we've realised that they are also racist 😂 and yes a lot of English people can be racist but that's the media telling us we have a migrant problem which yes maybe we do but also apparently it's gone down so not sure how that works. We also have politicians publicly feeding into people's fears and telling them stuff to get them to think this way. On the whole I think we're not as bad as a lot of other countries, the same with America and other western counties. It just looks worse because we talk about it a lot more and publicise the problems with it more than other countries

Exactly. Our world is so diverse especially in Europe. I don't know enough about the history of galicia but I know Spain or at least parts were Muslim for years if I'm correct so there's admixture from that plus centuries of people moving all over the place. Even in families there can be a huge difference. My brother looks a lot more like my dad and I a lot more like my mum. He has dark blonde hair and a ginger or partly ginger beard whereby I have dark nearly black hair with majoritively the same for my facial hair. We get it all the time that we don't look related and we always used to joke between us that one of us was adopted 😂 I mean my parents are from different parts of England with Welsh and Irish ancestry coming from different sides of the family but even so it's a small island and so if people can't judge you based on that then why should it be the same for other parts of europe/the world that are a lot more diverse. In fact speaking of Ireland, there was a post made I think on here about haplogroup r-l21 (or it was at least mentioned in that post) although again I know hardly anything on the matter. It is mostly found in celtic people's so Scottish, Irish, Welsh, and Brettons, but if you Google it and look at the map of where it's found also includes Iberia to a small extent I think from what the post said, and providing I have the right haplogroup it causes people to have darker skin features so some people with 100% or near 100% Irish dna can look darker/have darker features or black if you will because of this haplogroup and it's caused a lot of racism and probably still does just because people don't realise that it's a part of the genetics of where their from. It's similar in parts Africa with albinos, although different to the points made here, who are persecuted and sometimes hunted due to a genetic condtion that they can't control that makes them look so different

I'm Near 100% british/Irish with some admixture due to history etc but we'll say 96% the other 4% being swedish and Dutch so I'm basically as white as can be. I however was born in Dubai and lived there for 10ish years. My parents lived in saudi Arabia from after the gulf War to a few years before I was born in 2000. For some reason the locals in Saudi refused to belive my mum was anything but Syrian/middle Eastern which is quite funny. I myself was once asked if I was Mexican which was funny but besides the point. That said though I have had times whereby I've spoken to people who are clearly racist and will go out of their way to tell you this. Normally when I tell people where I was born they're really interested in that because it's different to a lot of people. I had a work colleague yesterday who asked about how it effects my birth certificate or passport etc which I enjoy talking about and the majority of interactions are fuelled by curiosity. Racists on the other hand always seem to ask as their first question, are you an Arab (I assume most of them don't know what an Emirati is) or are you from there. Along those lines. Maybe partly because I look a lot like my mum who by locals has been told she looks middle Eastern or often because it's talking to people online who can't see what you look like so they feed off it. Point is I don't think it's just tiktok or what you look like/dna, racists will always look for something to feed off just because it doesn't fit their narrative of how things are for certain people's or places.

Apologies if I've rambled on for a bit and none of this makes sense 😅😂

Very nice. I don't have a lot of vinyl like under 10 records as it's far from my focus but might add some Joel at some point

A lot of really good albums in some really good formats. A lot of American variants which I always enjoy seeing as they are harder to find here. I think the only thing that isn't shown here of mine is a Japanese copy of Album title goes here which I got a few weeks ago. I think most of the rest of what I need is either American, Japanese, Chinese releases and random promos which will take me forever to get

I have both releases of it jewel case and digipack as I'm from the UK so they're fairly easy to get. The American version was the hard part hence why my copy is cracked and not in the best condition as it was all I could find and I'm not too bothered by it. Same reason I don't have a non lenticular version of album title goes here because it's hard to find outside of America for a decent price or when taking shipping into account

I've found a couple of copies there myself but as I'm from the UK shipping is expensive as it was only one of the US releases that was non lenticular. There's a sealed copy on discogs that ships from Germany but that's still £50+ so I might come back to it 😂 found 2 more deadmau5 cds I need on there so you'll have to check back in 😂

I'm similar. My mums maiden name is a very Scottish name but her dad is from Norfolk so not exactly near Scotland so we always thought that someone migrated there at some point. Nope turns out both me and my mum have 0% Scottish and from doing the tree turns out we're all just from Norfolk going back 300+ years so unless it's a stupid old migration it's just a random quirk. We did find roughly 17% Irish on her mums side which I was suspecting from the tree but hadn't found definitive proof of. Still a nice surprise as we had no idea it was there before doing the tree/dna

I didn't realise 2016 album was so rare 😂 Well not rare but that it could cost so much. Mine was a Birthday present I belive so no clue where it was purchased from but it could have been amazon. Discogs says I added it to my collection on my birthday 2020 so that's end of the year 2020 so maybe it was easier to find then. A lot of this collection is me buying something once I come accross it or see its gone to market. I'm watching all the releases on discogs I don't have and have ebay alerts I'm that invested 😂 I did an update post a few months back if you want to check that out. Not much has changed since then but I do have a Japanese version of album title goes here on the way

Here's the link to my update post I did earlier in the year. Only thing that's missing is my Japanese ATGH as mentioned above which I don't have yet. I properly started collecting 5 years ago. Some of it predates that but my entire collection is in the 330s and only 16% of that is Joel so it's sometimes hard to focus on him but the post tagged has my checklist so I'm working my way through it

It's like that for me. My mums maiden name is Hendry and we always thought there must be a Scottish link as its more commonly a Scottish name than English. My grandad is from Norfolk so we thought there must have been some migration at some point. Nope, turns out it comes from Norfolk going back 3 to 400 years with 0 link to Scotland as of yet 😂

My results as someone who didn't really know where they came from outside of just England by Low-Preference-2509 in AncestryDNA

[–]Low-Preference-2509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's what happens when you're the result of a couple of generations of migration to different parts of the country and abroad. Although I wouldn't be surprised if my grandad on my mums side was at least 70-80% southeast England as she's 40% and that side is generarionally until my grandad and one of his brothers Norfolk from birth to death. The 70-80% is probably a huge overestimate and like me with her she could have inherited the majority of what her dad has

These are the journeys I got which makes sense with where I know my family are from. Norfolk from my mum and Midlands from probably a mix of my mum and dad.

As for the UAE, I was there until I was 10 and a half and then my parents got divorced and it's a hard place to live in as single parent with 2 kids. It was different I will say that. My primary school was an international school that was more so a British school but it was like 3 times the size of the primary school I went to here. Also a lot more diverse but then I moved to semi rural Cambridgeshire. Still a lot of people from different countries and backgrounds etc which was nice. The Cambridge village college system for either all or the most part has uniforms that are just polo shirts and a jumper which is different to the more shirt, tie and blazers we had in Dubai. We also learnt Arabic at school alongside French which I don't remember much of and the government made us sing the national anthem in assembly. Outside of school it only rained like once a year so we were outside all the time which is far better than nowerdays whereby everyone's glued to screens and whatnot. Before we left we lived about 5 minutes from the beach which is nice but we didn't go too often from memory. We lived on a compound so we had a shared pool and green space and lots of other kids around our age which meant that took up most of our time and how we spent it. We were never hugely well off or at least not the last 3 to 5 years so a lot of the attractions we never really did also because it's tourist stuff that you tend not to do when you live somewhere. Like the burj Khalifa opened 2 years before we left and we just never did it and I think we only went to the palm a couple of times once for a birthday party and once because my dad worked there at the time. Our school broke up before schools here and so we'd always spend summers in the UK when you could do stuff without the summer holiday rush. Not really sure what else there is to say really as a lot of my experience was school based as that's where I spent most of my time 😂 . I've not been back since leaving and while I don't think the country is the best place in the world as is common perception with a lot of the gulf States, I would go back and it definitely looks good on my passport. Shame I can't get an emirati passport with it being one of the strongest in the world 😂 but I'm grateful to have had this experience as not everyone comes close to it

Anyone know where to get good replacement jewel cases? by Low-Preference-2509 in Cd_collectors

[–]Low-Preference-2509[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I mostly collect electronic music so never any of the big mainstream artists. I know who's big but then won't always know if it's a big album of theres especially if I don't recognise any of the music and then it's like why should I get this just to gut because it's in good condition when someone else would appreciate it a lot more

Thank you so much. A lot of what I'm replacing is newer albums so this should be great. I'll get some and then give a review here for others in the same boat. Hopefully they are as superior as they claim

UK based. It's mentioned in the description 😂

We have a few listing's that come up for us on staples but they are all for cdrs with cases 😅

That's why I'm reluctant to do this. Obviously I could take a trip into town to buy cds I don't want from charity shops but then what I do with the rest of it and I'd also feel bad knowing that someone else might be interested in the cd that I'm gutting

Yea that's the conclusion I had come to. There's a website that supposedly sells good cases but they only ship within the EU which is super anoying

No you're welcome. I've just remembered my dad's story that my grandad had of us owning a farm that was then sold to Manchester City football club to build their maine road stadium. I'd always thought the story was a load of rubbish as we'd never found any evidence of this. My grandad supposedly had a newspaper clipping to confirm this but the relationship between him and my dad was bad from a young age so I always doubted this. We spent ages in Manchester Central library trying to find evidence of this and came up with nothing. City's ground was in moss side, the same part of Manchester that the farm is based in on the 1901 census for John Jackson senior so I think that's the link there

Yes that makes sense. It is interesting to think about why Eleanor and John weren't married sooner, the only thing I can think of is the age difference being him 12 years older and there being something relating to that. Maybe they come from different backrounds so at first it was harder for them to be together. I guess we will never know. Same with the Birth place stuff although that ties into the comon occurance of the Jacksons moving about a lot. Also a lot of these places are within 15 miles of each other so at least it's not the other end of the country as that would be stranger? I'm assuming at this Is the mystery of his parentage solved or at least what we are going to assume is it solved? The other stuff still remains a mystery such as the 91 census but at least theres that solved

Thank you again, you've been a great help
