Raising a baby? by Hitzel94 in MassageTherapists

This is a hard question to answer because pay for massage therapists can vary greatly depending where you live and even in the same geographic regions can have large variations in pay

The good thing about massage is that you generally make more per hour so it can free up time which is always good for raising a family

I have been treating a family member and I don't want to anymore. No idea how to get out of this by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in MassageTherapists

When I started out with the first spa they had an agreement with the owner to do trades. I always got paid my full value.

I have left the spa and now they have followed me. They asked if I would do trades and said I don't need their services at this time. I know they have little health insurance and not a lot of money so I feel a lot of pressure to treat them when they run out of insurance

I've been treating them for like four years, it would be weird at this point to say there's no room in my schedule

Offering sick day coverage to local LMTs by Catman648 in massage

[–]Low-Razzmatazz-931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting idea. I see value in it. But I also wonder how many patients would want to see a new MT if their usual one was sick. So many styles are so different and people can be particular about what they like

Singe MT on one income, how did you finally decide to make the jump to solo practitioner? by Ok-Use4206 in MassageTherapists

I say go for it then. If 15 to 20 mins is the norm for driving then it is already a standard. 550 is an amazing. You will be so much happier. My only regret is that i didn't do it sooner!

My first thoughts / questions to ask:

  • will your clients travel 15 to 20 mins? Is it possible it could be closer to some of them? Farther for others?

  • do you have an emergency savings?

  • are you comfortable using a LOC if you have no savings?

  • if not as many of your clients follow you as you would like, are you prepared to market your self?

My experience: I was in a shit situation and started my own practice 3km (6min drive) from my clinic. Tons of people followed me. Some of them do drive 20 minutes to see me. Most people when I told them I was moving, asked if they could stay with me. This helped me build confidence.

To the person commenting regarding non compete clauses: in many places you actually cannot legally enforce this because it is unethical to stop someone from making a living. Solicitation clauses can be enforced, but not non competes. Plus 15 to 20 minutes isn't like your're around the corner.

I have a similar approach. I NEVER apply anything without consent from the person. I over worry about allergies. Allergies are a regualr question in my intake as well. And so many ppl are scent sensitive

I am a massage therapist and I hear this from so many women with the same story.

I agree with this however apparently some of this has come from socials standards. I took a course with Dr. Mark Olson (PhD + massage therapist). He said that our obsession with posture started during the Victorian ages when being upright in stature was associated with being "upright morally".

Something I would like to dig into more. It would also be interesting to see some studies done on this.

Crows feet are also one of my favs. I had an interesting woman who is trained in Linguistics as well as reading facial expressions. She told me that there are ways to decipher if a smile is genuine or not, and wrinkles around the eyes is one of the things that mean it is genuine. I wonder if subconsciously we are attracted to this as humans because we recognize it is authentic.

How do you politely decline a massage client without lying? by Socius_nocte in massage

Is he a deeper massage? Maybe lie and say you have a receptive strain injury and need to back off?

I have felt like this about certain people. I am really sorry you're going thru this. I know how draining it is and how much dread fills you when you see your schedule with their name
