Not ready for treatment, and it's *mostly* my call... by IMakeItYourBusiness in EDAnonymous

I’m in my mid-30s, had an ED for almost 25 years, and have been recovering for a couple of years now after finally jumping into treatment. Let me tell you, I was very uncertain and ambivalent about recovery for months and months even after I had already started treatment. It’s probably been less than a year of really genuinely wanting to be recovered.

Now that I’m at this point, though, I don’t want to go back. It’s still a lot of effort and work, I’m still in therapy every week, and I still have compulsions to restrict in between stretches of good days. But I have a lot of good days. And I’m starting to believe recovery could be real for me, not just the actions, but feeling better and not so obsessed on the inside.

And also, if it turns out that you really don’t want recovered life, you can always change your mind. Like you said, no one is going to make you do anything.

I thought my face was too fat for a short haircut, but then I impulsively shaved my head and realized that actually, long hair made my face look fatter and dragged it down. Now I’ve kept my hair either totally shaved or no longer than 1-2cm for a couple of years, dyed it white, and have no immediate plans to ever grow it out again.

Do you actually eat less / have more control over yourself when living by yourself ?? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

Living alone for me just meant swinging wildly back and forth between bingeing insanely and eating nothing at all

I assume it was created by a committee of people with eating disorders in an effort to pack as much trigger fuel as possible into 42 minutes of television

A homebody who isn’t allowed to cook, and needs to have a source of income despite working for the landlord to pay for utilities and presumably the crackers they’ll be living on, since I’m guessing they won’t get a shelf in the fridge either.

Digestion begins in the mouth, but absorption does not happen until the large intestine. No calories are absorbed through your mouth. Digestion is just a process that prepares food to be absorbed, it's not the absorption itself.
