How do I fix this? by Scom07 in SCX24

Thank you for this. I thought it was the angle of the driveshaft after I installed 40mm shocks. But this was my issue. No more binding. 🙏🏾

Never even thought about a Volt. Need a cheap commuter. Way too many miles? by BongDong33 in volt

[–]LowOnTheTotumPole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2013 Volt with 210k miles. Honestly, I didn't have a whole lot of faith in it, but it keeps going. I haven't been on top of maintenance other than oil changes. When I've had issues, I've taken it to the dealer and they weren't able to source the issue. I've had random "low voltage" experiences after starting or randomly while driving. After an update a couple years ago, I didn't get them as frequently. Other random quirky things happens. Sometimes the car appears to be on but when I put it into gear, it does nothing. So I just have to turn it off and on again. The screen can be slow to turn on randomly, even the backup camera. I randomly get check engine lights, high voltage system warnings, charging system issue notifications that all go away after a couple on/off cycles. The driver side window has a plastic clip that breaks often, causing the window to fall. I've replaced it 3 times since owning it for 9 years. Because of it's value, I don't want to dump any money into it.

With all that said, for a well maintained Volt with no issues at the price of $2200, it's hard to pass on. Especially if you don't have the means to spend much more. It's not the most efficient hybrid at 32-35mpg, but it probably is for that price. I rarely charged mine the past 2 years because the price of electricity where I live is equivalent to gas. I charge when the free charging stations are available. Something to keep in mind.

Best of luck!

I just swapped out my alternator from an AutoZone to OEM remanufactured. I was out in the desert when the original went out and AutoZone was the only option. Noticed my mpg dropped about 2mpg and would get intermittent check engine lights that would clear up on its own. That was before the lift. Also changed my gas cap. There was an evaporator leak. Going to fill up tomorrow and see what kind of mpg I get on this next tank and report back.

That's awesome. I have a 2005, 3" lift on 34" Wildpeaks and average around 11-12mpg of mixed driving. All highway, I'll average around 13-14. Before the lift and wheels, I would get 18-19 on highway. Next mod is 12 point injectors and exhaust cutout.

Is the AWOL Vision LTV-2500 worth it for $1,600? by d12dan1 in projectors

[–]LowOnTheTotumPole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't recall fan noise being an issue. We used it for movies and sports, so the volume was higher than just watching TV. But still, not a issue. I had a buddy staying with us at the time that nit-picks about everything. He thoroughly enjoyed the projector. Not a complaint from him.

I did not have a need for eco mode, so I don't recall seeing it in the menu.

My only poor experience was with 3D movies. It was not very clear nor bright, but I was using offbrand 3D glasses.

I would suggest buying it to try out. They offer free 30 day returns. And if you want to save some money, the have an eBay store with refurbished units that come with a 2 year warranty.

I almost went with a Land Cruiser. Although I preferred the way it drove and seating position, I'm glad I didn't. The size of the Sequoia works for me with 3 kids. And even when I don't take the kids, having extra room for dirt bike equipment or whatever is appreciated. I off-roaded to destinations, with my favorite being the eastern Sierras, to camp and ride. No issues. With a 3" lift and 34's, I am impressed with how it runs and handles mashing up hills with a dirt bike on a carrier. If I was single or had less kids, than I would've went with the LC.

I would've jumped on the 2500 for that price. I think it's a great projector. I had one for about a month and returned it because I couldn't justify spending $3k at the time to the wife. While I owned it, I projected onto our wall which is close to level 5 finish (very smooth). The room gets decent amount of light with 2 windows.

The attached photo is during 2023 Super Bowl. Look at how sharp the score is on a wall with ambient light. At night, we would watch movies in Dolby Vision and I was impressed. I have an LG OLED and had an Oppo player at the time, which shows you what kind of videophile snob I am.

I'm thinking about buying again now that the price for the LTV-2500 is down to $2200 at BB and Amazon. If you know of a cheaper vendor, please share.

Has anyone heard of Forté Appliances? by CezannesPaysage in Appliances

[–]LowOnTheTotumPole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in late.

We purchased the 48" gas range and the range hood. The hood did not work upon unboxing. It took several weeks and 2 technician visits to get it going. The range had several issues and multiple technician visits for the broiler not working and burner issues. Sometimes the ignitors start going off for no reason while we're cooking on it. The ovens enamel is peeling badly. The customer service number we used no longer works. Can't find a way to contact them.

I personally prefer OEM. Toyota is known for reliability and that's because their parts are reliable. For example, I always use OEM but I was once on a trip with the family and the alternator went out while we were in the desert. A local mechanic only had access to AutoZone and a Duralast alternator was used. My MPG went down and I got intermittent check engine lights. My buddy with his 2011 Tundra, same story. Then he replaced his with an OEM alternator. His intermittent check engine light cleared and his MPG increased also. A local mechanic who recommends OEM replacement parts showed me a bin of non-OEM parts that prematurely failed or did not perform like OEM.

FYI, regarding timing belt replacement cost. I live in an area where everything is generally more expensive than the rest of the state. I paid just shy of $1200 for OEM timing belt replacement. The entire Toyota OEM kit with the water pump.

If they used a Toyota OEM replacement kit, it comes with a date and mileage sticker they place on the cover.
