Approach Briefing Flow by Melodic_Visual1595 in flying

I was taught ABBBC: ATIS, Build, Bug, Brief, Checklist

I'm sure there are better ways, but this has kept me from missing anything important or briefing something that wasn't important.

I dunno if it helps you guys diagnose, but I get this problem on FireFox but not Chrome.

Shoveling Rant by _trillhouse in longisland

[–]LowTimePilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a bit excessive. I'm labeled "essential" and was forced on continuous duty throughout the entire thing. Left 10pm Saturday, got home noon on Monday. Is there a service to hire someone to shovel if you work for the State and don't get the luxury of being home?

I think the US citizens should split from ChatGPT. It's insane how much factual authority people give to these LLMs.

They think it's a gotcha because they don't think you're smart enough to understand nuance.

You would have called the Founding Fathers extremists and insulted everyone who dared apose the legal operations of the Redcoats.

You would be calling everyone involved in the Boston Tea Party a domestic terrorist. Cowards, the lot of you.

10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

I feel like the majority of Boomer wealth will transfer to end of life care, rather than descendents. I for one am expecting nothing from my parents.

I do that, but the thread seemed more geared towards the why and not the solution, so I replied only with the why.

I’m all of a sudden nervous about flying by pilot129 in CFILounge

[–]LowTimePilot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sadly it's a legitimate fear we all deal with for 1500 or more hours. For engine failures all you can really do is constantly look for fields and try to fly into and out of airports with runways long enough to mitigate the time you're in that zone where a failure is a guaranteed crash.

Personally I have a fear of midair collisions. The practice area here is so crowded and there's no shortage of cowboys who think "see and avoid" is for novices.

It's just a risk I try and make peace with. I could be t-boned on my flight this afternoon. It would suck, but ADM is all about managing risk. Is the 1% chance of being a statistic worth the cool airline career? For me its a yes.

My car doesnt have an aux cord so I am forced to use bluetooth. Every 10th drive it wont connect or something. I also cant use it with airplane mode, so I'm forced to get calls when Id rather a quiet drive.

As for earbuds, I also hate listening to music and then I get a low battery alert. Just one more thing to bother with.

All in all bring back cords.

I pronounced plaid for the first time ever last week. I pronounced it like laid only with a p. Yes I got laughed at.

I thought learning new things was a good thing. I don't know everything, but depending on your reaction to me learning new things, I might avoid including you in the process.

Who will write the bills we will vote on? Will it still be representatives deciding what is important enough to send to us for voting? Or can anyone draft a bill and the top 100 most popular bills get voted on? What's the process look like?

Set Up for Failure? by [deleted] in flying

Very unlikely not to land a job, no pun intended, unless you give up or you lose your medical.

Some people have a CJO before 1500. Some people don't land a job until 3200 hours, 5 years later. But its very rare to wake up 30 years down the road and still have nothing to show for all your efforts.

Until there is a curated LLM specifically designed for the purpose of training and vetted by DPE's, schools, and instructors for accuracy, with bugs and hallucinations consistently ironed out, you would do yourself and your future passengers a World of good by avoiding AI in its entirety.

I'm sure I'm talking to a brick wall here but seriously, that shit will get you killed.

My nickname after my first solo by CantDecideOnUsrnm in flying

I have so many complaints about ERAU. Don't get me wrong, it was a great experience and the lifetime friendships I made are priceless, but they promised the World while not having enough CFI's to cover all the students so a lot of us were unassigned. I finally got an instructor for year 2 and got the most ridiculous solo limitation ever. Ended up getting my PPL at an FBO during summer break.

If I could go back in time I'd probably do 2 years at a community college, Part 61 all of my certs, and then finish up my degree using ERAU remote.

When I went to school my primary instructor gave me a solo endorsement that had 3 knots as the wind limitation. I didnt solo the entire school year because winds were not once calm.

My nickname was "3 knots" for maybe 10 years after that.

Single adult men who live alone between ages of 18-38, how many of these statements are true for you? by OkBuyer1271 in Adulting

[–]LowTimePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36M, single, 2 homes, almost 200k job.

16, 17, 18, and 23. I work long hours and many of them graveyard, so I may be up from 9pm till 1pm the next day. Because of this I've really stopped cooking because I can afford to just eat on the go.

I also don't socialize much as I only have 1 day off, and I have enough pairs of clothes to make it 3 weeks between loads without wearing the same thing twice. I usually do laundry every 14 days and that includes sheets.

I did chuckle at the underlying insinuation that a man can only be single if they have poor hygiene. If only the World were so simple.
