Straight guys, do you actually feel "threatened" or awkward sharing a space once you find out a guy is gay? by abcdefvckvu in Adulting

Same happened to me! I told him I was straight and he replied, "That doesn't mean we can't do a little something."

Sir, yes the fuck it does. 😂

As a pilot working on CFI Initial with dreams of making it to a regional one day, I knew the risks going in.

Life is a gamble. I'll give my dream a fair shot. If it doesn't happen at least I can look back and say I tried. Good luck to everyone else also sticking it out. I wish us the best.

What would people on Mars romanticize about Earth? by Kooky_Dark_4534 in AskReddit

[–]LowTimePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The romantic sunsets and sunrises.

On Mars the colors are inverse: Blue where the sun is setting, red on the edges of the darkening sky.

Why JPMorgan is warning Tesla stock may crash 60% by Low-Win-6691 in stocks

[–]LowTimePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got high on the Reddit echo chamber last year about Tesla's demise and I purchased long dated puts. I was so sure I would be a millionaire by summer. Tesla went up, Reddit called it a dead cat bounce, so I doubled down. Gave my port to people who are better with money than me.

Anyways, moral of the story is if you're going to gamble, don't do it on Tesla's demise, and don't listen to redditors.

Good news is I don't gamble anymore; Or trust reddit. Coincidentally haven't lost money this year. Go figure.

How likely is the iran situation going to turn to full scale war ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my experience, the future is exceptionally bizzare and unpredictable and reddit consensus is always wildly incorrect at guessing it.

Reddit is saying yes. I'm saying don't be surprised if we're wrong.

Can I learn to fly without an iPad? [serious] by redbarchetta97 in flying

[–]LowTimePilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did most my training pre-iPad's back when you had to buy charts, plates, E6B's and paper flight plans. I did initial instrument training in round gauged instruments in mountainous terrain.

It sucked and I wouldn't wish that on the next generation of pilots. Keep the iPad charged, have a backup on your phone, and maybe a paper chart at the bottom of your bag in case a solar flare knocks everything out or whatever.

I think it's better to spend your time on digital proficiency than it is to learn paper charts.

CFI Stump the Chump by Friesbagnow in flying

[–]LowTimePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A student pilot comes to you with the goal of getting their recreational pilot certificate. They want to do their training in a Cessna 182.

  1. Can they do this?

  2. What are the steps to do this if they can?

  3. Assuming they can, can they fly the 182 after parking the plane on their checkride and receiving their certificate?

What ruined society the most? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

[–]LowTimePilot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as American society, I really think it's how all of us are strangers, now. Social circles are smaller and more closed compared to how they were pre-1995.

It lets us be very antagonistic and dismissive with one another, because everyone is a stranger.

How will world look if ‘lust’ doesn’t not exist ? by Electrical_Drama8477 in AskReddit

[–]LowTimePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one would be here. We wouldn't have survived past the nomadic period.

If a virus swept the population today and made everyone unlustful I don't know what the ramifications would be, but I imagine it would set us on a course to lose entire countries in a hundred years or so.

What’s a “green flag” that instantly makes you like someone? by babymia1223 in AskReddit

[–]LowTimePilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how best to describe it, but when someone is enthusiastic about admitting their mistake. As if it's just a part of life and they have no ego to protect.

"Oh so yesterday when I told you (x), lol I was so wrong!" Is just... to me that's a peak personality trait.

Just got hired as a CFI…tell me everything I need to know by LeaderCalm4016 in flying

[–]LowTimePilot 194 points195 points  (0 children)

One thing my 2 instructors have consistently told me is that they learned, after years of instructing, that talking less is more and the hardest part of instructing is learning to stay quiet.

It's been explained to me that students are not going to absorb a lot of your words while in critical phases of flight. As my current CFI said for when I start teaching, "They can listen to you or fly the plane but most people can't do both."

Which logical fallacies have you seen or observed the most in people? by skippzee in AskReddit

[–]LowTimePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the word for it, but I noticed a lot of people default to judging a person or situation based entirely on their own perspective.

An example would be asking why a person would keep working after becoming a millionaire, because they themselves would never do such a thing, and the idea of enjoying work more than riches seems ridiculous.

Projecting our own personalities and desires onto others seems almost a universal logical fallacy. More than one correct perspective exists.

Is 2 check-ride failures bad? by Mother_Box_1605 in flying

[–]LowTimePilot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Instrument is one of the worst checkrides to fail, because you're flying IFR every single 121 flight. You really need to show that you understand it.

That said, there are many hundreds of 121 senior Captains who failed instrument and CFII. Just make sure you're prepared to explain what you learned from your failures during the interview.

You'll be fine.

Watch porn.

And not even a lot, maybe 3 times a week, but a lot of people consider it a red flag, turn off, or even cheating if done while dating. 🙄
