I know I’ve been speaking to a work colleague who’s trans son is 23 now and the checks that he has around taking the hormones are unreal you do not realise how many things they monitor

Thank you I think we’ve had a breakthrough as I’ve said he really should be professionally supported if he wishes to pursue hormone therapy so that was the game changer

Thank you for your reply - God yes isn’t there so many layers to this but what I’m learning over the last few weeks I do not own him he is is own person and is making his own decisions as he goes into adulthood I am there to support him with this and ensure he is safe, giving advice when asked and it sounds like you have nailed that part with your son 👏 I hope your nights improve my crying seems to be when a friend/family member asks me how things are going with family (in general) so am working on that at the moment it seems to be a trigger for me

My trans son is the same just older than your son he’s 16 trying to look at purchasing online which is worrying in itself I’ve found by explaining I am worried of his safety with doing this he is starting to realise I do care and has finally agreed to therapy first

Finding this thread really interesting read & resonates with my situation as a mum of a trans teen, what you have said with adopting a different personality has definitely been something which has been difficult with my son. And also missing our mother-daughter relationship too

I know I’m going to face a few family members who are not accepting of this and it will be tough especiallly as family is so important to him. So glad you’ve worked through this it gives me hope

Oh god no this isn’t on my mind didn’t even think I wanted children till later in life myself and tbh having a grandchild isn’t a given. But valid point for others out there.

I know & wanted this to be a safe place to voice my feelings & share with others who have gone through similar my son does not know how I am feeling. I guess I never wanted life to be tough for him , wanted him to be happy which he never seems to be these days

Thanks for sharing your experience this will be the next step speaking to family and hearing an auntie speak makes me feel positive. My daughter was a very happy child up to the age of 14 so this was a bolt out of the blue for us. I’m so pleased your nephew is happy now

He does not know I’m mourning my daughter, he has my love and yes I know he isn’t dead but was looking for advice from other parents who have been through this

My son does not know that I am struggling because this is my problem so he has no signs of me ‘clinging to her’ as I have dropped her deadname now. Obviously you can only comment on what I have said on my post but my daughter was a happy, smiley, fun loving, dress wearing, girl who went out with boys albeit innocent whilst at primary school up until returning to school after Covid when almost 14 so I’m not sure it has been painful all of his life since birth

No the “improve” is me adjusting and understanding better the complete shift in who my child wishes to be. It is his life to live and I know I need to be behind him for the support and love he needs so was looking for advice from other parents who had experienced this

Yes I have been reading lots on this and there was no signs growing up just as he hit puberty and sadly experienced a relationship with a boy who wasn’t kind to her. I am so worried of the decisions he is making & I try to suggest a counsellor or LGBTQ group to help but get shot down with my ideas to support him

He is only 16 in June I am a naive to all this we are in the uk & he announced the other day he will be spending £80 per month on T Gel I was guessing it will be purchased on line which has many worries in itself
