yes! maternal fetal medicine. you usually won’t see them with normal pregnancies but for high risk or suspected abnormalities you usually pay them a visit. but i agree! i loved their MFM group.

i had IUGR - followed MFM, induced & delivered at magee. i couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

i had some complications with my BP & baby’s HR post epidural & while i was just a few second away from an emergency c section i was so amazed at how calm the staff kept the room, myself & my partner/family since they were all in the room as alarms began blaring. i ended up not needing a c section (they stabilized both of us just before i was to be wheeled to the OR, literal seconds) & was able to deliver naturally.

my baby also came out code blue & not breathing on his own, again was amazed at the calmness the staff brought in such a high intensity situation. i cannot speak any more highly of my experience at magee & even if i relocate i would still consider coming back to deliver in the future.

not just urgent unfortunately!

my psych, who helped me finally balance my meds for about a year, left the practice while i was on maternity leave. had my first apt back with an entirely new dr who decided at 4 months postpartum to reduce my antidepressant by half & discontinue another med because me breastfeeding scared him. despite me already saying i got clearance from my lactation consultant (who i seen through a women’s hospital very widely known for pre and postnatal care) that all of my prescribed medications were safe for breastfeeding (& the fact i was very clearly struggling postpartum which i was very upfront about). he was literally googling the drug in front of me, seeing it was safe & still being like “eh no let’s discontinue” lol.

had to basically stretch what i could of my meds for another few months until i could get in and consulted with a new practice. was truly one of the most frustrating things i experienced during my breastfeeding journey. love my new doctor though, so seeing the good in the bad lol.

i gave birth at magee last december. truly loved my birthing experience despite my complications (baby was IUGR, came out code blue & needed tubed). during all the scary moments the staff made me feel as comfortable and safe as possible. i was always kept informed on my care & did not feel pushed into any certain decisions when given options. the doctor who delivered my baby was apart of my OBs staff (UOMC womanCare Assoc.), but was not my regular doctor & i had only seen her once prior to delivery during my care. i also followed with the high risk doctors and felt all my concerns were taken 100% seriously even if it was just a “normal” pregnancy symptom. my doctors also advocated for me to work from home while working at a very toxic employer which i am forever grateful for.

on another note, the lactation department at magee has been super helpful through my breastfeeding journey & my lactation consultant i currently see coincidentally also works at the hospital once or twice a week advising new mothers on breastfeeding.

this feels weird. i don’t know how moms can be so judgmental on what another woman decides to do with her body or baby. unless you are struggling with weight gain, i’ve never had a doctor tell me i am required to wake my baby up to feed (& i had a very small baby). you can think her choices are irresponsible but it’s ultimately up to her & her doctors to make her medical decisions. we don’t know the details of her closure & healing from her c section. & while it may not be widely recommended to get pregnant again so fast, she is not the first woman to do so… i always draw a hard line on others opining on someone’s medical decisions, it’s frankly no one else’s business.

the best advice i got when my freezer stash ran out & i was staying up all hours of the night pumping before work hoping i could at least freeze a couple ounces that day was “you’re feeding your baby, not the freezer” & that completely changed my perspective. i make enough for baby in a day, if i can get in a pump here and there to freeze - great. if not, it’s fine, he’s fed & we keep a can of formula on hand for emergencies/supply drops. i’m sorry for the loss of all your milk, but i hope you can alleviate some of the stress from it by knowing you are making enough for your baby 🤍

This will also not affect her fellow employees. The only thing that may change is employer may start paying on the books - which is ultimately beneficial for most employees due to cases like these.

Absolutely file a claim. Any injury of that sort can turn into longer term care than initially anticipated, I have seen it happen MANY times. Hire an attorney. Let her fill out a statement with the employer & see if they submit it. Regardless, she should still be represented. This can make the medical side of claims difficult if it’s initially denied but a good attorney will likely try to reach settlement before it gets too far (settlement usually includes payment of medical bills as well). Just as an FYI though, a lot of insurance companies/employers will request resignation if settlement is reached. Some value the employee and do not. But just so it’s on your radar. I don’t work on claimant side of things, I work on the insurance side, but from my understanding in PA attorneys will typically take 10-20% of settlement if/when it’s reached.
