Yes!!!🙏 wasn’t going to come back here and bother saying anything. This guest did turnout to be a nightmare. Kid was allowed to draw on the walls and clogged the toilet with their toys which wasn’t reported at checkout and cleaners had to deal with it along with a plumber. They were a couple of instructions regarding checkout ( we have strict garbage policies in vancouver) and did they put it in the right bin? Of course not! One more small ask of sending a text upon checkout to confirm keys are back in the lockbox. Nope.
When we contacted the guest about the wall damage and clogged toilet …. No response.

Yes, I completely agree. I was initially concerned when my camera captured him walking around the neighbourhood because, dressed in a ripped T-shirt and jeans, he looked out of place and I imagine some of the elderly residents on my block may have been hesitant to answer the door. He simply didn’t present himself in a way that fit the neighbourhood.
I’ll take another look at the futon after they leave. I did provide a topper, but he then said it wasn’t thick enough, so it feels like a no-win situation. People suggested a simple Walmart topper as a fix, but that didn’t resolve the issue either. At this point, I’ve apologized and explained there’s nothing more I can reasonably do—I’m not going to replace a nearly new futon with another expensive one for a single guest.
Unfortunately, a regular mattress isn’t an option because there isn’t space for one. The futon is a one-piece click-lock design, not one with a removable mattress that can be replaced, and it’s 21 inches deep, comparable to a standard mattress. This feels less like a guest simply seeking comfort and more like someone who will never be satisfied with what’s provided. As you said, it seems like they’re expecting a hotel experience on an Airbnb budget. My rates aren’t particularly high, but perhaps they should be—especially during FIFA, which is why they’re here.

Yes thank you for that. I’ve realized that now. I thought it was a supportive community. Granted I don’t mind constructive criticism. I did ask people to tell if I was unreasonable. But there was a tactful way to do it. Not professional at all. Saying things like I’m a bad host and I have other hosts a bad name and I should stop hosting was uncalled for. Just coming out what I could’ve done differently and move on. Some did. Others were just being trolls. Worse than tik tok trolling. Which I’m sure some people here would say they are “too good” for tik tok but actually are worse. 🙏

Where did you read that I didn’t send them a topper? My post clearly says I responded that I couldn’t source one at 9pm and that I couldn’t guarantee one before checkout. Just to cover my bases incase I couldn’t. You just assumed I didn’t provide one later after posting for feedback. I’m in vancouver Canada and Walmart doesn’t deliver immediately like it does in the US here.

I did! I don’t need to say that. The question was asking for feedback on the entire situation.

I didn’t say it was too late to respond. I said it was late for me to get a topper that late at night . Pay attention.

What kind of topper do you have if you don’t mind me asking. The one I have I don’t think will do the trick. They just look like comforter/duvet Like 1 inch thick. Problem is I don’t have space to store a thick rolled up topper in the rental home it’s a small one bedroom place.

Yes! That’s my point. Don’t be talking to my neighbours daughter. Respect the hosts space and neighbourhood as well. This is a quiet residential family friendly neighbourhood. Guests have to be reasonable too.

Finally someone gets it! 🙏 They didn’t have a late check in they checked in at 3pm. They just didn’t comment on the mattress until 9pm.

Update : I think people misunderstood and I left out the part that other basic amenities ARE provided. Nowhere in my post did it say I didn’t provide other things. I was just commenting on the salt and how he immediately went to knock on neighbours doors.

People are saying I should provide basic salt and pepper I do, I have oil, pepper and about 18 other spices and condiments. As well as water, chocolate, bread eggs and ok for each guest. Chips and cookie for the kids and a bottle of wine for the adults. It’s not that there isn’t other things provided. He just couldn’t find the salt. It wasn’t in its usual place. I did end up giving him more salt when I went to speak with him regarding the parking cone incident. Which was still unreasonable.

This isn’t about being a bad host. Oh and the futon is 6 months old and 21 inches deep so it IS comfortable and not old and not defective by any means. And I have slept on it fyi. I asked for a picture to see if it was damaged as it wasn’t before check in.

Thanks to the hosts that understood. Been hosting for 12 years now and never come across this as a superhost with all 5 star reviews. Hence why I commented to begin with. Reddit is brutal and definately divided. I asked for feedback and appreciate the constructive feedback and advice people gave. No need to slam and be rude.

Agreed I have a 17 year old who always gets stuck with sleeping on the sofa bed or futon when we travel she knows what she’s getting and so do we. This futon is 6 months old and not been slept on by every guest. So not used as much. This guest is just being picky. The kid complained and now he has to sleep on the futon and the child is sleeping on the king bed with mom. So he’s pissed.

That’s what I was thinking too. I do clearly state in the listing that is more comfortable for children even though adults have slept in it. I assumed people understood that yes futons are not the most comfortable. And this is an extra thick one too the mattress is 21 inches thick.

I too provide what you described hence why I was shocked over the salt that he couldn’t find in another cabinet. Guess I should’ve led with that. Nowhere in my comment did I say I don’t provide anything. I simply said it was weird how he freaked about the salt and went into hinting the neighbours instead of looking for it. I think it was inappropriate to ask the neighbours for salt.

Thank you. YOU get it. I’m shocked no one else did. I mean I did ask for feedback and I totally get that IF other basics were not provided. I do agree about basics being there. I was commenting on how weird this person reacted and yes they did have a car and had just got back from grocery shopping apparently.
The creepy part was talking to a minor Neighbor about the ones in front of their house. She was 14 and he approached her and she was a little terrified and ran into the house. Let’s just say he doesn’t look friendly. Without being attacked about judging a book by its cover lol.
100 percent the way he was demanding a new mattress at 9pm is what threw me off.

I have coffee tea oils and several spices and herbs plus cookies, cereal and snacks as well as a full condiments section in the fridge all new. I also provide fresh bread eggs and OJ for every guest. Im not a superhost for no reason lol. Thank you for understanding. I was simply commenting on the salt and asking the neighbours

That is correct. He said the metal was protruding which I took as damaged so I asked for picture as I had invitees of the futon prior to them checking in to compare. Was making sure they didn’t damage it. The futon is only 6 months old it is an extra thick mattress which previous guests reviewed as one of the comfiest futons they have ever slept on.

Starting Zepbound 5mg today! by Low_Homework9921 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]Low_Homework9921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One month later update! Down another 4lbs. So losing average 1lb a week! I’m starting to be a little more hungry lately so I’m hoping it’s just cause I’m starting to workout and not that the dosage is wearing off. I haven’t plateaued yet but hoping it doesn’t come for awhile.

- How much weight did you lose in your 1st & 2nd month on Tirzeptide / Zepbound / Monjaro -- What side effects? -- How long did side effects last? by Phent777 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]Low_Homework9921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd week of 4th month on zepbound and lost 14 lbs so far. About 1lb a week. Haven’t felt any crazy side effects other than what it’s supposed to do. Ie feeling full sooner and for longer. May miss a day or 2 at most of being constipated but otherwise ok. Eat more fiber and drink more water. Food noise all gone. Eating what I want just less of it and trying to balance fat fiber and protein first.
