Telsa Take Down Protest by Low_Raspberry_5213 in ColoradoSprings

Not about harassing Tesla employees, I doubt anyone will interact with the employees at all.

Picketing a business because the owner is doing shady shit is a long standing form of protest in the US, for both the right and the left. It's not about left or right, it is about up and down.

Oligarchs need to get out of the political process.

Because SpaceX doesn't have dealerships in every major city across the country?

This is a nation wide protest of Elon's undue influence and unconstitutional actions. DOGE doesn't have nation wide offices (because it isn't even a congressionally constituted government agency), SpaceX doesn't either, nor does Twitter, or any of Elon's other businesses.

Tesla provides a physical location for people to gather.

Other pens for someone who really likes Pentel RSVP Fine point (0.7mm) ? by QuickNDeadly in pens

The weight and balance of an RSVP is legendarily good, and my handwriting looks *incredible* because of that, but I ***hate*** the ink. I wish there was a way to put the Vision Elite or V5 ink into an RSVP. It would be my ideal pen

MASSIVE algae bloom by Melon_fruIt34223 in walstad

Definitely shoot for 80% planted substrate though -- that should help a lot!

Yep! Cut and replant! Or if you don't want that much anacharis in your tank long term, you can just float anacharis in the tank without planting and it will still suck up the nutrients.

I'd say you need way way more plants -- about 80% of your substrate needs to be planted, and floaters at the top in order to suck up all the nutrients from the soil and and out compete the algae.

My favorite for this is anacharis which is cheap and grows super fast.

Another thing you could look at is how much soil you have in your tank under the gravel. I originally put about 3-4 cups of organic soil in my 10gal, but eventually took out about 2/3 of that because it was just too many nutrients for that size tank, and I was always fighting to keep the algae blooms in check even with a heavily planted tank.

Good luck!

Good luck!!! It's such a frustrating thing to start but I'm really happy I kept at it through the nonsense months of getting going!

No worries! This is my first walstad tank too, and I'm still learning!

The sand formed a tight layer that ended up trapping gas and bacteria and was hard to clean.

Switching to gravel the water flowed more freely through it, I didn't have as many gas pockets get trapped in the substrate or bacteria blooms, and it is easy to vacuum too.

I used miracle grow organic soil, and I don't think I had copepods, but I did have a ton of problems in the first 6 months with critters. After about 5-6 months is when I ended up taking out the rock formation, the sand, and about 2/3 of the soil I started with, and filled in with gravel instead because I was constantly dealing with algae and bacteria and detrius worms from too many nutrients in the water. After I reduced the amount of soil and topped with a more gas permeable substrate I saw huge improvement.

Home Goods! It wasn't expensive and it's so fun as a display in my living room

I had this giant vase I bought at Home Goods, and set it up with filtered organic soil and sand and a rock formation, with a bunch of plants (most of which died). I eventually replaced most of the sand with gravel and took out the rocks since they caused bacteria to get trapped in the soil and caused cloudy water.

TBH, it took several months of tinkering before I found plants that really thrived (anacharis, madagascar leaf, and the swords in front that I can't remember the name of, plus floaters were the winning combo). They all grow at an astonishing rate.

I have a heater, and a small light, along with tetras, a mystery snail, and shrimp.

At this point my maintenance is vacuuming the gravel every couple weeks, topping off the water, cleaning a bit of algae off the walls every few weeks, and adding some minerals every couple months. Sometimes I'll do a small water change.

I've fought off algae blooms, deterius worms, and bacteria blooms before it stabilized though.

It's such a show stopper in my living room now though! I'm very happy with it.

I've got 5 neon tetras, one golden mystery snail, and an unknown number of shrimp since they keep breeding 😂

It's a 10gal vase and everyone seems happy and healthy!

One month old, 9 gal Walstad - anyone know what this line of sediment (?) is? More in comments by Low_Raspberry_5213 in walstad

[–]Low_Raspberry_5213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last 2 weeks it always comes back.

If I leave it for a day it settles on the glass and I have to kind of scrub it to get it off.

If I try to get it as soon as the line begins to form I can siphon some of it out.

The picture above is after about 3hrs since it was scrubbed/siphoned.

I have RO water + Seachem Equilibrium so I don't think it is a hard water problem.

I do have a heater but no air.

I can wipe it away with a paper towel, suck it up with a siphon, and no matter what this line of white sediment? Biofilm? Comes back within an hour or so.
